So I think I’ve been gaining a bit too much fat lately… I’ve put on like 40lbs since the summer. I’m considering dropping my calories down to around 3500 as preparation for cutting before the summer.

I don’t know… Maybe I’ll still be able to keep progressing with lower calories if I keep my protein intake high?

No. Both protein AND overall calorie consumption is key.

Dude, I doubt that only 3500 cals are enough for you ? You can try, of course, but if you’re going to cut later on anyway… Don’t waste your time now, bring your arms up.

I agree man, just keep going with it until you are actually going to cut for summer. I wouldn’t be trying to lean out rightnow at all if I was going to do a cut for summer. I plan to get myself “back in check” and then continue my bulk. I’m not doing this to get cut for summer or anything, I just feel I bulked a bit sloppier than I should have. Want to get myself back in check and then continue bulking using what I’ve learned so far up to this point helps me stay leaner while making progress.

Yeah, you’re right. I definitely need to start cleaning up my diet and cutting down on my calories at least a little though. I think I’m getting like 7000 cals on some days, haha.

Maybe 4000 calories of good clean food as well as fasted cardio in the morning and sprinting a few days a week. (Hey, I like sprints…)

And on the topic of bringing my arms up, any ideas as to why they progress so slowly compared to the rest of me? My curl hasn’t really gone anywhere in a while… No matter how hard I work at it. It’s like I hit a wall at 15 3/4 inches.

Well Vegg, pm me your current routine (in its entirety) as well as your curl progress over the last two months and let’s see what we can do…

Sprinting? Instead of becoming good at running away you might want to become better at bashing skulls in like a proper viking.

7000 cals a day? I doubt it lol

Sweet, gym IS open tomorrow.

Did some biceps stuff today. Then did cardio and watched Dog the Bounty Hunter.

Goin to my uncle’s (who used to be a juicin’ bodybuilder) for dinner. Don’t know if I really feel like getting drunk tonight.

Last workout of 2008 was a biceps workout. I fail at life.

PM’d. And yes, I wouldn’t doubt 7000… I mean I sometimes eat 2500 calories just for breakfast… :stuck_out_tongue: My diet has been pretty sporadic lately though, so it’s probably lower than 4000 on some days. (inconsistent holiday eating will do that…)

Oh well, I got a strict clean diet planned out so I’ll see how that goes.

It varies a lot, but here’s an example of a big breakfast I’ve had:

-2 cups of egg whites
-3-4 eggs
-Large shake with two scoops of whey, coconut oil, 2% milk, 1-2 bananas, various fruit, etc.
-Large bowl of oats w/ milk, cranberries, and apple slices
-Olive oil

  • Various nuts
-a few spoonfuls of natural peanut butter

The coconut oil, olive oil, nuts, oats, and peanut butter really start to add up when it comes to calories… A bit overboard definitely. A typical breakfast for me is more in the 1500 calorie range.

Thats quite a bit of fat in one sitting but not that much to worry about.

Even if you got considerable amounts of the nuts and oils your probably still shy of 2k there. Which is a shitload! lol

1500 cal breakfast is awesome when bulking as I seem to be getting most of my calories (in one sitting) from that meal which is odd because I’m not a big breakfast fan, but I am a morning eater lol

Cooooldddd pizzaaa in tha am…bring it on! lol with added protein of course…eggs seem to be a staple lol

Ohhh I should look at it that way! Since I probably wont get to lift today (gym closes at 6pm and I have to work till 5pm probably) at least my last workout of 08 will have been a leg workout. Though today wouldn’t be lame either, today was SUPPOSED to be back! And I was super psyched to try to get 515 for 8+ reps on rack pulls w/ shrug. Grrrr

Oh well forgot my backpack at home anyway, which means I wouldn’t get to do rack chins and would probably have to just do lat pulldowns.

Well, it’s 3am here, so I wish everybody a great new year.

Got some arm work in today as scheduled, but had to cut it short because of bad planning. Here’s how it went:

CG Bench, worked up to 3 sets of five, one at 145 and 2 at 135, then a back off, 100x more than 10 (can’t quite remember).

Thoughts: I suck on this exercise. BIG TIME. However, since I’ve never done them before, loads of room for improvement.

BB Curls, 3x5@ 80lbs, then a back off of 16x45.

Bis are a weak point, so I’m happy about this.

Chair dips to failure, got 18.5 with a nice stretch and slow tempo.

Dropset of cable Curls, 50x7, 40x4, 20x10.

All in all a good pump, and working arms is definitely a fun way to finish of the year.

Today’s Back:

Rack Chin:

+90 x11, 5, 3 + partials

*Great progress!

Rack Pull w/ Shrug back:

515x8, 435x12

*Good progress again here!

I’m rather shocked to be honest. Didn’t expect a great workout after weighing in so light this morning. Oh well, can’t be mad about that! =)

So I decided I am definitely getting too fat… Not only do I have the bulk belly, but also the bulk moobs, bulk jelly rolls, and bulk love handles. (Ok, it’s not THAT bad but you get the picture.)

As soon as I can get the right food I’m going to ease into a cutting diet starting at 3500 cals for a month, then 200 less per week for another month… Then I’ll see how things go from there.

Damn, I’m starting to sound like a new year’s resolutioner.

how important do you guys think it is to have an overhead tri excersises, could you do fine with all pressing you think?

Not trying to be a dick here man, but you’ve never been fat.

And until you do become really fat, the chub you’ve put on ain’t shit.

Dude, I’m seriously pushing past 20% BF here… With a 40 inch waist. I don’t know about you, but for me that qualifies as being fat, and isn’t exactly healthy.
I’ve always been a fairly chubby kid(read skinny fat) so I’d like to be lean for once in my life.

Well, that post was maybe after a bit of new years partying.

So I didn’t really mean it. But I started out at about 310-315, 5’10. Probably 46-48 inch waist? I was fucking huge and out of control. I cut down to 185 over a year and a half to 2 years, and lost a lot of strength doing it and thought to myself “man, this is really ghey. I want to be jacked”.

Now the only thing I’m willing to do is up the exercise, not lower the food.

Good luck to whichever route you take. Fat loss is soooooo boring compared to getting jacked.

I was in the gym yesterday doing heavy pulls. One of the biggest dudes in the gym was in the power rack doing floor presses. I got done with my deads (355x5x5) and I was about to do rack pulls. Well, the big dude doing floor presses was off-loading his bar of 405. So I said, “If you are done there, you can keep that weight on there (I was going to do 405-450 for the rack pulls), because I’ll use it for my rack pulls.”

I thought he’d appreciate not having to off load the pretty heavy weight and maybe even appreciate some else doing some real exercises besides curling or bosu ball bench, since that’s that kinda shit people do in my gym.

He just stared at me. Dropped the 45lb plate from his hand. Picked up his shit off the ground and started walking away. I thought maybe he wasnt done, so I said “If you arent finished, that’s fine with me…”. He stopped in his tracks, and he just stared at me for like 5 seconds. All aggressive like. Then walked off.

I was so thrown off by this. Really messed up my mojo. This is one of the guys that I really looked up to at my gym. He’s massive and always does some serious powerlifting workouts in a major weenie gym. Never spoken to him before, but I watch what he does and have incorporated some of his stuff in his workout into my own. I could see if I was some 135 lb douche who approached him mid-set, but he was clearly done. He took off his wraps, took off 2 plates from one side, etc. Clearly finished.

I was partially pissed off and partially embarrassed. Mostly pissed though. Dude was a major dick head. Like I said, I looked up to the dude. And he crushed that.

So much for a Brotherhood of Iron (2.0)

Chances are you’ll end up with bigger tris from just focusing on CGP’s, SRGB’s, HS Dips, etc than if you were doing OH DB extensions, OH EZ Extensions and OH olympic bar extensions :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
