Brotherhood of Iron 2.0

Well ladies, another day of disappointment…

I started warming up on decline which I was REALLY excited to be doing… bar was great… getting psyched… throw a wheel on each side… and I unrack it… and what the fuck… there is kind of a sharp pain in my left pec near where it connects to my shoulders region…

Oh well, I thought. I’m sure it will go away. Threw on a 25 on top of the plate, got back under the bar. Unracked it. Controlled it down… that first press up hurt like a BITCH. Cranked out 8 then racked it. 225 same thing, stopped the warmup set short at 8. 245, got 6, it hurt. I’m getting nervous cuz it hurts really bad but I’m determined to fucking lift. 275 for my last warm up set. Solid unrack, a strong single… that hurt like a motherfucker. Racked it. Cried a little bit inside.

Tried to warm up on the incline DB’s. Same thing. :frowning:

Worked calves and called it a day.

I’m really annoyed. Do you guys think it might be a strain? I feel like maybe when I was trying to grind out those military presses on Saturday maybe I tweaked something…

Sad day.
Dude, you don’t continue lifting when you get such a thing!
Could be all kinds of shit, like a small tear (Rühl is suffering from one) etc.
You don’t agitate that shit, call it a day and let it rest, focus on another bodypart, whatever.
Do you have a lump there or anything?

Lol Bug…I think I just had a good growing spurt this week. We all know that growth isn’t linear, I was about 213 last week’s weigh in and I was not expecting to be 217 this week…I didn’t even really eat any more than usual or anything, it was just a spurt.

Also, last week was the first week of rest-pausing and DC style leg training maybe it triggered some rapid growth. Yesterday was chest and on the HS Incline I got 20lbs increase with 2-3 reps more total RP (I’m only doing the bottom part of the press though, I stop when I feel it becoming more tricep on each rep).
That 20 pound increase is fairly normal, especially once people start doing full DC. of course things slow down later, but I still occasionally get that.

Got to do some lifting today, same basic session as last time, but saw improvements in all lifts, despite being in a calorie deficit.

And man are pullups hard when you stop for a second in a dead hang at the bottom!

CC (and Scott M if you’re reading),

In your opinion, what point in one’s training and development is ideal for training DC-style? To put it another way, what type of things would you want to see in a trainee before they embark on this style of training?

This is how I always perform pullups (if I’m going to do them). Its also the same way I do lat pulldowns, rack chins, etc… Through my own personal experience I find that this really helps pound the lats, and I absolutely love it.

I had my GF do her pullups like this this past Sunday when we were at the gym together (I hold her feet and she tries not to use her legs at all if possible). She said she definitely felt her back working more this way and liked it a lot. Another bonus is its going to help her build that strength from the dead hang so she can do her first full unassisted pullup, which I would be willing to bet will happen in only a few more weeks.

Check out this thread over at IM…I think it gives you a good idea of what you need to know about your body, etc before considering DC training.

Here’s today’s session. Still felling a little shitty from what feels like the start of a cold, but I’m not about to let a little snot stop me…

Circuit 1.
no rest between exercises.
3 rounds:
-Thrusters - 35’s x10/10/8
-Burpees x12/12/12
-rest 75s.
-repeat

Circuit 2.
no rest between exercises
2 rounds:
-Snatch-grip deadlift 225 x6/245 x6
-3-way DB swing 20 x12/12/12
-75s. rest
-repeat

After that, I hit the elliptical for 20 minutes.

I figured these metabolic sessions would get easier after a few sessions, but I was wrong. I have yet to progress past 3 rounds of any of the pairings and I feel like I’m going to die after completing the last round of the second circuit. If these sessions don’t rip body fat off me, I don’t know what will…

Excellent! Thanks, Josh. That’s exactly the info I was looking for.

Ah, thanks for reminding me of that thread… This will come in handy for something Sento and me are working on.

Np, to both of you. I keep checking for new stuff over there every now and again so I’ll be all up to date when I make the full switch to DC.

OK, let me first point out that I have no problem with homosexuals, I say to each there own, live and let live.

But I saw the gayest man I have ever seen in my life doing high kicks around the functional training room, supersetted with some kind of ballet leap.

All while wearing vibram five fingers

Gives me a whole new perspective on them.

Josh, slow the fuck down man, you’re making the rest of us look bad…cocksucker. Of course all of this is said out of respect, but seriously, cut that shit out.

hehehehe, how about you guys finally start busting some ass in the gym ? ;D

There’s no lump or anything. No pain unless I’m specifically pressing something in some horizontal plane… doesn’t hurt when I touch it but if I dig really really deep I can feel a tender spot.

hm

Guess chest work is taboo for a while… Wait, does that mean that you feel pain on IH’s/RGB’s as well?

That just sucks balls… And dips are fine?
I’d tell you to go to a doc just in case, but meh… All you’ll be hearing if he doesn’t lift himself is gonna be “stop doing that and take up running”.

#Edit: Did that pain just suddenly appear or have you noticed ANYTHING off before that? I’m wondering why it happened… Injuries always have a reason, from form to not-yet-recovered muscles (which is why guys in near-contest shape and on reduced diets get injured easily)… If we can find out why it happened in your case, we can prevent it from happening again/getting worse…

Even though those last two workouts were terrible, I am absurdly sore today. Don’t know why that is…

Good news is my knees are feeling better than they have in months! I’ve started doing 60+ reps of squats with just the bar every weekend and it seems to be doing some good.

Getting some blood into the areas lacking direct blood supply may be why it’s helping you.

You’re very sore? What are you doing posting here? GO EAT

The last time I busted ass in the gym was during oldschool t-bar rows about half way through my set…felt bad because my friend was standing behind me to help hold the bar in the corner.

Haha, we used to get chased out of one of our first gyms because of doing t-bar rows and ruining the cheap walls/corners ;D

My gym sucks…but they actually lined the bottom part of all the walls with some thin metal that has helped slow it down. But there’s still a nice hole, I’ll snap a picture of it if I remember later.

Btw CC, I think I decided to go with trying the Yates Row…mainly bc I think I will max my progression on the t-bar row too fast. I think I can only fit like 8 plates on the end of the bar and I’m 99% sure I would do that much for the heavy set today. Last time I did t-bars was like 15-20 lbs ago and I did something like 6 or 7 plates for 18 reps or something like that (this is using the same ~70 degree body position).
