Morning all,
I recently broke my wrist (cracked Radius) and my hand playing rugby. I’m on week 5 of my recovery at the moment.
I was wondering if anyone else had experience with recovering from this and how long it takes to get back lifting.
The doctors have been pretty rubbish at providing advice on how long things take (they missed the broken wrist on the first X-ray ffs).
Cheers all, just want to know how long before I can be lifting on machines and then free weights etc.
You should be lifting free weights with your good arm Right Now.
I was doing upper body work with cables and straps (strapped around my elbow area) but I’ve just taken some time off as I feel exhausted and think I need a rest and time to recover. Even the mrs said I’ve been going full pelt and haven’t really stopped.
The things for me is my left side is my bigger side and I broke my right wrist. So didn’t want to do too much left only work as it would only make the difference worse. If only I broke my left wrist and hand.

I broke my right wrist snowboarding when I was in grad school. With the cast, I still lifted - but just lower body. I did squats, split squats and lunges on the Smith Machine (no holding the bar issues), leg press, leg extensions, leg curls, etc. and I did cardio, I was running pretty seriously back then.
Wrist recovery - no upper body at all until the cast came off, because I was afraid I’d be “crooked”… After the cast came off, my wrist told me what it was and wasn’t going to do. Some things didn’t hurt at all and others were damn near impossible. I remember it taking me a really long time to be able to do push-ups again without pain.
Just listen to your body, and definitely do the rehab exercises they give you. Hang in there and right now, giving yourself a little break is totally acceptable. It’s gonna be okay and you’ll be back to Badass in no time!

I broke my radial bone head and had a cast for six weeks. I started to lift after few months but I got to use light weights since it hurt. The pain did not came from bone itself but from soft tissues themselves. I think it tried to rehabilitate them to hard. I’m 15 months after injury and soft tissues still hurt when I train three times a week. When I train two times it’s fine.
