Nice post, Brock. I’m glad the spirit of your family lives on in it’s stories. Too many of us have had heroic ancestors that we don’t know about.
But one thought. Your great grandfather, Saul, and his family were persecuted because they happened to be Jews in Russia under the Czar. This was wrong. They were innocent.
Not all Afghan’s favor the new Taliban government. In fact I’ll bet most do not, but the devastated populace (from war and drought) was too weak to resist the Taliban take over in 1993.
By all means, let’s do all we can to stop the Taliban now, but let’s not make the mistake of persecuting innocent Afghan’s who happen to be living in a country recently taken over by the Taliban.
Brock, seems like your great grandfather was a great man who would work to protect the innocent, wherever they live.
