I just signed up for my 1st meet in about a month. It’s a pretty long as ride that I don’t feel like taking myself so I’m gonna bring my girl with me. Is this a big deal at a meet since she’s not competing? I’ve never been to one so I don’t know the etiquette or what goes on during one. It’s a short meet (just bench and DL) so I’m sure she won’t mind just hanging out.
Not a problem.
It won’t be a problem that she’s there, she probably won’t like being there though.
Thanks. We’ll see how it goes. There’s another one Jan 11 so maybe I’ll do that one solo if she hates this one.

I wish I could talk some sense into these women. Geepers.
(edit, female here.)
Brought my bride to my first meet, which was also a “push/ pull”. The only problem with the days event were that she liked watching me compete, but was very bored with all the pther weight categories and flights.
When I was finished my portion, and wanted to watch the rest of the event, she wanted to go. I managed to talk her into staying as we had to come back for the awards ceremony anyways.
Secondly, seeing as it was my first meet and I had no clue what I was doing, there was a cute lady who attended this meet and gave me a hand with submitting my weights, getting me psyched up and putting baby powder on my legs etc etc… I think my lady was a little jealous… or maybe intimidated. Nevertheless, without this lady (Ourboro… you out there?) I would not have hit my PR, and subsequently win the event.
So… to answer your question, sure, bring your lady… just pay attention to her when your flight is done.
I guess I’m lucky. I brought my fiance to my first meet and she enjoyed watching me compete. It also gave her new appreciation for what I do spending so much time in the gym, and made her aware of my goals.
My wife comes to all of my meets and even takes care of my videos. All I have to do is supply her with plenty of beer and steak dinner or BBQ afterwards, and she’s happy. It doesn’t hurt if I do well, and I’m not grumpy afterwards.
To keep her interested in what you do (And going to meets in general), you should have her help you. I have my girlfriend do a number of different things while I am competing. Not only does she take video for me, she also takes pictures. According to her this is very hard to do at the same time I also have her watch my equipement. Lastly, I have her help me pick my attempts…or so she thinks.
I already know exactly what my attempts will be, but I always ask her what she thinks I should go for next. I usually make a bee-line right for her as soon as I get off the stage to here what she has to say. Not only does this make her feel more important, it shows her that she comes first.
These are all ideas that have worked for me. My girlfriend loves to come to meets and see my succeed. Like others have said, after a meet, she should have a new understanding of the amount of work you put in and why you do what you do.
