I’m looking into getting a pair of briefs or potentially the inzer power pants to wear in training for squatting and possibly some deadlifting. Mostly just looking to get some pop out of the hole and keep my hips tight and protected, but I’ve got no idea where to start.
Anyone have any recommendations?
EDIT: I don’t think this matters with briefs, but I typically train alone, so just in case that affects anything…
Do you compete raw or single-ply?
I just recently got a pair of the Inzer Powerpants. I purposely went up a size just so I could have something easy to train with. I like them, as they substantially reduce the wear and tear on my hips without bruising my legs like a squat suit. As far as pop out of the hole goes, you may want to get a tighter size or upgrade to the predators if you want more than 10lbs of pop.

I compete in strongman, so single ply deadlift suits are acceptable, but I’m probably never going to see a squat in a competition. However, a lot of guys believe they get better carryover to events and better hip protection from doing their squatting in gear.
I was also considering maybe getting one of the cheaper deadlift/squat suits (like the inzer “champion” suit or the z-suit) and training with the straps down. If that’d offer the same kind of support I think I’d rather do that just so I have the option of a full suit.
TWL,
You won’t get much pop out of the Inzer power pants. They are mostly for keeping the hips warm- they do give me a little more confidence for heavier squats though- so maybe you can consider that carryover.
That said, I use them for most ‘non-walking’ events. They do throw me off a little for things like farmers, conans, truck pulls, etc. Good for stones, tires, log/axle, etc.
I also have some Metal briefs but I haven’t worn them in forever- going to be too much brief there, but I am sure you know that. My friend had the Z suit and had what Inzer said was the right size- 1st squat= ripped at the seams in the legs. So I can’t really help you there.
Hope something in there helps…
Inzer power pants are probably want you want then. The titan boxer briefs tend to pinch the legs a lot. The Frantz poly briefs are super comfortable and don’t have much pop either. Even the double-ply ones don’t help you much.
I started using single ply powerpants again when I had to bring my stance in due to an injury. I can tell you I get a crapload out of them.
Don’t think there is anything out there for what you are looking to do.
If you want some hip protection get some rehbands.
If you want carryover on a deadlift, get a deadlift suit.
I tried wearing briefs on events and they did NOT work for me. They are loose and even at that it restricted my movements way too much. Gear was meant for standing still, not moving IMO. If you do find anything let us know about it.
I rock the ghetto rehbands for events (not even sure where I got them, but they’re like a cheap version of rehband pants), looking for something for squatting mostly and I wouldn’t mind getting a bit on my deadlift, though it’s not a huge issue since I have good speed off the floor already.
Only thing that really bothers my hips is back squats, so I want some protection and a bit of extra weight…

Then go with Power Pants. For as cheap as they are, it’s worth a try. They should definitely help your hips
Then I’d say go with a good single ply squat suit, then you can just work with straps down unless your goals/training changes.
