My butt hurts a lot - it’s sciatica. I fucked my lower back up (gradually, not suddenly) when I started making a concerted effort to squat more, and I also have piriformis syndrome (basically the sciatic nerve goes through the piriformis muscle rather than around it, so if it gets tight, it puts pressure on the nerve and things get uncomfortable). Some people get a lot of pain with sciatica. With me it’s more of a dull, nagging ache in my left buttock and hamstring.

It’s worth seeing a physio to suss out where the problem lies. With me, it’s the fact that the aforementioned 20+years of sitting at a desk resulted in extremely tight hip flexors and shitty mobility, which makes it hard for me to squat and lift with correct form. So the lumber spine is getting a lot of shear force placed upon it. So basically, have a physio check you over for any structural issues and imbalances that can contribute to the pain you’re getting. You may then need to see a chiro or get deep tissue massage. At the very least, foam roll. Hope you get it sorted as it’s quite literally a pain in the arse.[/quote]

Hmm…foam roll it is. Not exactly the most trusting of doctors around here. Do you do yoga??I *WAS doing yoga…I think I should probably start doing it again…and taking more time off. I’ve been going every day for the last 2 weeks, and I probably should be going more like every other day. grrr! I always overdo everything!!

Foam rolling is a wonderful thing.

Love your avatar btw. That little girl looks fierce!

He Bre, I also do dynamic warm ups and static stretching… and THEN a lifting warm up… and then lift.

Oilers and Eskies all the way!!

You went from a squat max of 40 kg to 70 kg in the last two weeks? Really? How did you change your form that allowed you to handle so much more weight?

Regarding the hammie, don’t know if you have ART treatment in Germany, but if so, give it a try. I’ve pulled my hammie before (multiple times, actually, and always the same one), and my ART guy can usually get it to loosen up.

What is this ART treatment? Back to research mode…

Yup…I was holding my hips in - tucking them under and first instead of arching back. Archin my back I found I could lift way more. Had to “make like a duck” :)I’m not going to see any doctors here unless I lose a limb or something.

How dare you!!! Not on my traning log! It’s all FLAMES!!!

Go Rangers.

I have started doing yoga again but I’m not completely sold on it. I’m persevering to see if it helps (I’m also working towards that damned headstand).
Beast - ART = active release therapy. It’s a very brutal form of massage that breaks down scar tissue and adhesions. It’s effective but it’s frigging painful. I’ve had it but put it on hold when I lost my last job because it’s £50 for half an hour where I go. (There are very few practitioners in the UK). I need to start going again, though. I’d recommend it if you can find someone who does it and can afford it. But don’t expect a nice relaxing massage. It sucks donkey dick, it really does.

Go Canadians!

this sounds like my kind of “massage” …not the donkey part

Today I forgot my workout pants so instead of giving up, I went to the grocery store and bought what they had…ugh.

Bench Press - this took me at least 30min.
Bar x 12 2r
20kg x 12 3r
25kg x 10 2r
30kg x 7 3r
35kg x 5 3r - felt pretty awesome
40kg x 1 1r - scary to do without spotter…
35kg x 5 2r
25kg x 8 3r - focusing on slow negatives, and pusing up with power/speed - love the pain of these last reps

seated db tricep ext
6kg x 20 - focus on good form, power speed
8kg x 8 2r
10kg x 4 2r

5kg crunches until ab obliteration.

Butt status: Still tight, but I can now cross my legs without pain…so it must not have been too serious.
Mental status: depressed, but expecting to feel this way.

cross your ankle over your knee and rub the stretched muscle around on a tennis ball. expect tears/watery eyes. even on the butt thats not hurt.

WORD! grocery store pants!! ha ha!! GANGSTA!

where exactly is it hurting on your squat–does your quad hurt or is it a inner thigh thing or where?? i apologize if you explained it in an earlier post,i just didn’t see :stuck_out_tongue:

some times i get bazaaro weirdness,an almost an electrical pulsation on the very top, very superficial piece of my right quad with some one legged exercises. very strange. we’re all a bunch of freaks wiring kinks.

edit…my post won’t show but i see where you are hurting, that to me might be due to the mountain climbers?? i dunno :frowning:

Here ya go:

Bear’s not wrong. It hurts like fuck.
