Damn! Look at the muscles on Koko!!! she takes after her owner  really makes me miss, jumping on and galoping around… I used to enjoy tearing up the golf course in the neighborhood with a big thoroughbred/warmblood cross…Ha! jumping the picnic tables and going for ice cream…those were the days!

Are those beef or milk cattle? I’m guessing…beef?[/quote]

Good guess, they be black angus cattle. Dont have any milk cows, to much of daily chore for me. Yea KoKo is a powerful horse that can do anything I want her to.

Hell yeah!! You’d all be hard-pressed to separate the two of us! That would be EPIC!! I can see it now, I’m all muscled up, with a face mask, shield, and spear!! FOR SPARTA!!! LOL

Visiting Montana has crossed my mind on many occasions, actually.

I used to ride a lot as a teen but it’s too damned expensive in London. I rode in Germany a couple of times when I was visiting my exchange partner - I was impressed by the standard of riding school horses there (not like the knackered old dobbins you get at most British riding schools…)
I miss riding, but last two times I’ve been it has seriously knackered my back. After 20 years of sitting hunched over a computer, I’ve lost the ability to sit upright unassisted (without a lot of aching anyway). Sad, really.

They have riding in Germany? Must do research…

Oh F#$! Okay, I’m panicking. I think I may have did something potentially serious to my left glut while squatting :frowning: :frowning:

Here’s what happened.

Mountclimbers until sweaty (squat warm up)

Squat bar x 10
mountainclimbers
20kg x 10
mountainclimbers
30kg x 8
mountainclimbers (I guess I just like to look like an asshole in the squat rack???)
40kg x 5 …something feels weird in my left glut/upper/deep ham
50kg x 3 …okay, it’s weird, but no problem, I feel strong
60kg x 3 …doesn’t feel right, but whatever.
65kg x 2 x 2 …see where this is going?
70kg x 1 (current max) …OOOOWWWWW…THAT hurt!!! …funny without the pain, def would have gone up 5-10kg.
cooling down
20kg x 5
stretching hips
10kg x 10
and stretching…

and now, after taking 1000mg of acetaminophen, it STILL hurts.
I have a dull aching pain in my left, medial? glut… hurts especially if I’m standing and bring my leg laterally across the other one. I dont know what I did… Maybe I didn’t warm up enough? too much volume?
How long should I rest it for? What can I do so this doesnt happen again?

So fine, there goes my ass, now I guess I’ll do quad isolations.

quad leg extensions or whatever they are where you sit on your ass and raise your lower leg. so boring.
20kg x 10 x 3
25kg x 8 x 3
30kg x 5 x 2
35kg x 3 x 2
40kg x 2 x 2
and back down

calves extension machine thing
20kg x 50
25kg x 30 x 2
30kg x 15 x 2
35kg to failure
and back down

My special abz work out
lay down. raise one thigh perpendicular to ground extend lower leg… now extend lower leg out in front of you so your thigh is about 65 degrees from the ground. then extend other leg out fully and point toe. With 5kg weight in hands (arms extended behind you, raise arms and pointed toe leg perpendicular to meet and at the same time push bent leg out straight. repeat both sides until failure. wipe your face with your shirt several times in front of the mirror to admire how hot you are.

The end.

srsly, my ass hurts.

really?? that’s shocking…from your avi, your back looks really strong!!! I can’t imagine how/why riding would bother it… unless you;re riding some of these dressage horses that require SO.MUCH.LEG.EVERY.STEP. I guess thats the difference I’ve seen between dressage here and in the states. In the states, you basically put the horse into gear, and it keeps going, until you tell it differently. Here the fuckers need assistance with every single step. Maybe I’m just not a qualified enough rider, but still…

p.s. i’m definitely going to incorporate the phrase “knackered old dobbins” into a conversation at work tomorrow. thank you.

p.s. I just started squatting heavy like 2 weeks ago. I swear, Before that I could only do like 30 or 40kg max. and then I changed my form, and added a bunch of weight. Maybe I stressed a ligament or something?

I think the standard answer is to alternate ice/heat, don’t do anything thats dumb, and rub it as much as you can, to get blood in there to heal it.

waits for someone more knowledgable to chime in

rub it?!??? myself???!! FML :frowning: :frowning: I guess it’s just everything but the butt for November.

oh by all means, its perfectly ok to have someone else rub it!

I just read your latest blog entry, that was freakin’ hilarious.

A few more times of falling and he started in English, “What the fuck is wrong with you? Why can’t you do it?” “I dunno”, I said. “I always fall down!”

My butt hurts a lot - it’s sciatica. I fucked my lower back up (gradually, not suddenly) when I started making a concerted effort to squat more, and I also have piriformis syndrome (basically the sciatic nerve goes through the piriformis muscle rather than around it, so if it gets tight, it puts pressure on the nerve and things get uncomfortable). Some people get a lot of pain with sciatica. With me it’s more of a dull, nagging ache in my left buttock and hamstring.

It’s worth seeing a physio to suss out where the problem lies. With me, it’s the fact that the aforementioned 20+years of sitting at a desk resulted in extremely tight hip flexors and shitty mobility, which makes it hard for me to squat and lift with correct form. So the lumber spine is getting a lot of shear force placed upon it. So basically, have a physio check you over for any structural issues and imbalances that can contribute to the pain you’re getting. You may then need to see a chiro or get deep tissue massage. At the very least, foam roll. Hope you get it sorted as it’s quite literally a pain in the arse.

It looks as though you didn’t warm up enough. Jumping directly to mountainclimbers, then going underneath the bar, with heavier weight…my guess would be your glutes and hams were still pretty tight, and not yet ready for the increase in weight. On squat days, I typically do a bit of a dynamic warmup, ie- high knees (to warm up and loosen my hips), front leg raises, rear leg raises, forward leg swings, lateral swings, a few slow, deep lunges (ensuring you get a good stretch), then move onto the mountain-climbers. It may seem like a bit much, however, in doing this for the past couple of years, I’ve avoided injuring myself while squatting.

And as CBear stated, alternate between hot/cold treatments, massage it, and rest it. You’ll also probably benefit from some light tensing/stretching work as well, although, I would give it a week before doing that. Don’t get discouraged, Bre. This shit happens to all of us.

^^^right on…lift heavy, warm up heavy. I’ll take a week off from butt work and see how it feels next Sunday. I think I was probably did rush it/was too tight- even though I walked for an hour before hand, probably wasn’t enough. grrr. THANKS people.
