you can keep your hands nice with a good foot skin scrubber (‘foot file’ or whatever). though i’ll admit i actually prefer a bit of a callus now - but if i don’t keep 'em down i’ll get blisters under 'em and then i tend to cry when the callus rips off :-/

does help for feeling the bar, though imho. though i do understand why people who rest less between sets (do more circuit-style) might prefer the convenience of gloves. nothing quite like a cloud of chalk dust, though. i’m happy to buy my own chalk so i don’t feel bad going a bit bananas with it.

I was doing my benches and stocky Vietnamese kid comes over and starts asking me about why I have an arch in my back when I’m benching (I had been keeping my ass on the bench, but I had been arching my back to help me to keep my shoulders pressed down - it works for me because of my long arms and I also bring the bar down under my boobs instead of over them to help activate the chest and not put too much strain on my shoulders.) He listened to my explanation and he didnt try to argue because I dont think he honestly had a clue, but he did HOVER over me for the WHOLE set. So what’s your name buddy? I asked… “ummm…errmm…hmmm…for americans…it’s not so nice name…ummm…errmmm hmmm…” It’s okay I said, my name’s like a French cheese, so it can’t be so bad. He sad, oh I dont know what that is, but, my names Fook, you know Fook? …um, yeah, I know fook. I mean, at least I think I know fook…it’s been awhile. Anyway, fuk or fook followed me around a bit and watched me work out. He did say something smart though. He said, “I like girl who have muscles.” I said yeah, I dont know why they’re are no girls in the weightlifing area." I did check my ass quick when I was doing tri’s … to see if everything looked okay, I…since the mirror WAS behind me :slight_smile: I would have like a second opinion to be sure. I dont mind flexing my shoulders or tris in the mirror, but I do still feel awkward about flexing my ass. In time, I will lose all gym mirror shame.

I’m doing volume to set my form in my muscle memory. My form on bench is getting more stable I think. Since I dont have a spotter, and I dislike dropping weights on myself, I will work on this form thing before I go for one max rep. And quite honestly 72lbs bench is still not easy for me.

Maybe you can get Fook to spot you. He could give you a second opinion on your ass, too.
