That foot looks painful! Loving the boots, though. I have a couple of pairs of cowboy boots, one of which is lizard skin. They’ve been reheeled and resoled umpteen times. I love them.

what a babe! I like this picture a lot
sorry about your foot, that sucks. Foot injuries are so painful. Heres to a speedy recovery ![]()
ouuuuuch…foot looks painful :{
but you look hott! boots 2 :)!
soo…I thought today would be a GOOD day in the gym.
injury recap:
left arse is weak do to structural/anatomical imbalance - working on this
inside of right foot is BLACK from kicking a pole repeatedly while drunk, also some light bruises up the inside of my calve. When I woke up I thought my foot was broken due to pain, but then now it feels pretty okay, just sore.
So. I started out with the glute warm-up x 2, everything fine, but I noticed on one legged squats that my RIGHT QUAD felt like a HUGE knot.
whatever, I went to the rack and started to do squat warm up without shoes and without the bar, nothing noticeable wrong except I felt unbalaced on left side as usual, and took some time warming up to find my center.
Then, I put on my shoes because they help me balance and patiently started with the bar doing 6 reps of split squats and 10 reps of normal squats. I noticed that when squatting on my weak left side, going down into the squat my right quad was SCREAMING in pain. It was not as noticeable during the regular squats, but I didnt add any weight to the regular squats because I didnt want to injure myself further. I went and rowed 1000m in 4:28 (2:16/500m split) tried to stretch it out more, but it just kept screaming. I walked home 2km and it felt very tight. In fact, it still hurts right now.
WTF.
Hypotheses:+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
A) my new Reebok trainers (for glute activation) are somehow shortening my right quad/hip flexor
B) my right foot was not flexing at the toe as much due to injury which caused a weird cramp in the right quad muscle
C) I need a warm up that incorporates glute activation AND quad activation, it was just too cold.
D) all of the above.
E) None of the above, _______________________________________
VOTES? Feedback? Inquiries?!! Personal experiences?
I’m taking tomorrow off… grrrrrrr.
tennis ball rolling the quad / glute? might need to release the fascia or something…
i have trouble activating my glute when my hip flexor and / or quad is too tight.
My vote is that it has something to do w/B. The injury to your foot is probably causing a bunch of subtle compensations that are just more obvious when you do unilateral work. Good idea taking a day off. Alexus is right, a little myofascial release could help.
You should post some update pix of your foot. Bet it’ll turn some cool colors while on the mend. Feel better.
ugh thanks ladies… so FRUSTRATING!
Magnum PI FTW. And stay off your foot, Bre. If anything, do the tennis ball thing and rub that shit out! ![]()

HAHA! You fucking maniac. But its true, Python boots ARE fucking badass and meant for tearing shit up!
I’ve also had terrible quad pain whilst doing overhead squats. I chalk it up to tight quads and hams, and not having familiarity with the mechanics of squatting while holding a bar over one’s head. I say, roll those bitches out! Do they have foam rollers in Germany?

Masch, they do have them. If not, they can be ordered easily.
Shitty deal about your quad.
Like everyone else said, just so some SMR and stretch it as well.

As far as shoes go, If you haven’t read “Born to Run” by Christopher McDougall, I suggest doing that. It is a good story and teaches you a lot about foot anatomy, and why shoes like that are just screaming ‘injury’. I used to suffer from knee and leg pain so severe, that about once a week I would almost crawl to the emergency room to get some toradol shots.
Ever since switching to shoes with less support, my feet have gotten stronger, I can feel the muscles in my feet working, and I have no knee pain anymore at all. (I also foam rolled and did many mobility drills, all of which definitely helped…) I see some shoe commercials now that make me want to cringe…
If you want a copy, just let me know, and I will get you one (e-book)

Not to hijack, but I’d be interested in a copy, I’m New.
Hope the foot heals up Bre, foot injuries suck.

I would love a book on foot anatomy! I’ve come this close to destroying mine…I would love to bring them back.

Schaumstoffrolle?? I just google translated it… I can’t even find dryer sheets. I asked a native about them, and she’s like, “why do you need those?” And I said, “remove static electricity, smells good,” she just looked at me blankly and said, “so, you dont NEED them”…ugh…

Gotta love 'em. Practical, but impractical at the same time.
python boots for the MFW!!
I can’t recall if you mentioned this, but weren’t you looking at getting a pair of Vibrams? Are they even available in Germany?
You could get a tennis ball and GENTLY roll it on your soles, to get the blood flowing. Little to no pressure. There’s also a GREAT video of ankle mobility drills done by wrapping a big, thick power band around the foot and tilting it in each direction (contrary to the resistance). I’ll have to find it.
Ice and compression 3 times a day ![]()
I want to know what veggie thinks about stretching the quad and strengthening JUST the hamstring on the same leg, at least for a week.
And if you want a good opinion on what is going on, you should PM bushidobadboy to take a look at your log.
Hey Gawgeous, rough couple of days ![]()
But uh, you have some pros in your corner, so I’ll provide the emotional support

I think that you need to stretch and let that foot heal. How is it feeling, looking? How did the myofascial release, stretching go? Are you walking on it normally? Can you put a shoe on w/out causing increased discomfort?
Really hope that you’re on the mend.
