Do you breath out controlled or explosively?

Breathing is a crutch. Just like those cheaters who use protein. You should go natural and not use breathing.

haha…i breathe explosively when im using heavy weight
I don’t even think about it.
But on the whole, breathe with exertion.

That’s a great series Boris. I haven’t watched all of them, but you really know your stuff.
I too have a martial arts background and we have many of the same influences. I liked the kendo breathing example that you used.
Keep it up!
Don’t keep pressure in your head, but rather midsection.
Thanks Sxio.

I thought I popped a blood vessel or something from keeping pressure in my head when I was deadlifting. I had to go home after that incident. Then, I tried to go and work out the next day and it happened again.
Finally, I just went to the hospital and had a CAT scan. The doctor said their was nothing abnormal and just labeled it as a tension headache. So i’m just taking a week off then i’ll see what happens. If it happens again I guess i’m going to have to see a neurologist.
Breathe out when you work against the weight, breathe in when you release the weight.
It might be OK to hold your breath when doing long sets with light weights (at the end of the set when you’re tired), but it’s a bad idea when you’re attempting a PR.
At least that’s what seems to work for me.
thas all sound pretty scientific considering the imminent eevntuality of a nice lil hernia.sure its scientific.
but honestly, worrying abt breathing is the last thing on my mind while im under a driveuintheground kinda load. wats more it happens naturally. plus the last i checked going heavy while u r a bodybuilder on ur powertraining day is pretty much ANAEROBIC…!

Some people instinctively know how to breathe under a maximal load, many don’t.
What does something being “ANAEROBIC” have to do with this thread?
I’ve noticed holding my breath on the first half of the concentric portion of my lift has helped me move more weight, especially when squatting.
Is it a bad idea holding your breath? I’m starting to think it is because I’m risking a hernia.
