Here’s a guy that at almost every turn has been screwed by the UFC, at least in my opinion. I think he’s a damn good fighter when he’s on his game, and I think when the time is right (when his head is straight) we’ll see him become a lethal force in the 205 lbs division. Thoughts? Opinions?
I agree…he needs to get the lock off his trigger. If any fight he’s needs to do so,it will be against Jon Jones.
Yeah I think it will be a battle of who gets to the punch first. Both jon and vera seem to have trouble pulling the trigger.
Both guys should have a W from their last fight. That said, Jon gonna whip that ass.
He got screwed against Randy… I love Randy, and it was a damn close fight, but Brandon won that one…
He’s weird he was handin out ass whoopins at HW then after he lost to Sylvia and Verdum its like he became a totally different fighter. Gun shy
Don’t like him
2c
I don’t like him either but the guy is good.
he sucks… HARD. At least, these days.
even after he came back from that long time out of fighting he hasn’t been the same. It’s a shame because he got for me he had better chances at heavy-weight with that muay thai level of his.
I predict an easy victory for Bones
Against good fighters, or even gatekeepers, he really looks like shit.
Against lower level guys, he looks fucking amazing. This has always been the case in the fights I’ve seen of him (all UFC).
My problem with him is that he appears much less aggressive against better opponents. It’s one thing to be wary of one’s skills, but when you’re opponent got tagged and his head’s spin, at least try to finish the job. I am of course referring to the last Randy fight, a fight he should have won, and would have won if he hadn’t left his killer instinct in the gym.
Still, I like his spirit, and recognise his great potential.

Is Lloyd Irvin the guy who says he got his BJJ black belt in three years, and now has schools teaching his methods?
As for Vera, I just think he’s gun shy, and is a lot better fighter than he shows. His fight v. Randy was a tough call. I still think JBJ is gonna drill him.
I wouldn’t say the UFC is screwing him, but he has a lot more potential than what he gives off.
Don’t like Vera b/c of that push kick he did to the inside of jardine’s knee. That kind of attack is f’in dirty and I hope that he gets popped for it.
And in case somebody chimes in that he just aimed the push kick a bit low…yeah right, the knee is way lower than somebody’s stomach
I don’t know if bones will drill vera, but I’m thinking he might be able to take him. I believe experience will be a big factor in this fight.
That is indeed Loyd Irving.
strangely Vera was in the air force and on their Greco team.
hmmm.
i think Vera got screwed vs Randy, but really, you gotta really knock the piss out of Captain America to get the decision.
that being said, i friggin’ love wathcing Vera, but am constanly frustrated with his performance. he really appears to have some performance anxiety or something. maybe the cut to LHW is too much for his body, too. i think Swick is at too light of a weight division as well…
i think this will be a good fight. if Vera loses, then he needs to re-examine a lot of stuff. but if JBJ wins, then i think he should be damn close to a title shot.
If you’re saying “the UFC” when you really mean “the judges”, I agree. He has a lot of tools and when he’s on he’s fun to watch, but as everyone else has said he seems gun shy for some reason. If he’s gonna beat Bones he’s gonna have to pull the trigger early and often.

Push kicks can be aimed at other targets than just the stomach. I personally like push kicking to the hip/inside thigh to stop round kicks. Works great and saves your shins. But, I don’t know if I’d attempt a kick to the hip in MMA, cause I could get called for kicking to the groin and DQ’d.
It’s possible that he was aiming for the femoral artery on the inside of the high and just missed low. I didn’t see that kick, so that’s just one possible speculation.
Hijacking the thread for a little bit.
I see no problem in kicks to the knee, it isn’t against the rules, the guys should just be prepared to it.
Anderson Silva did several kicks to the knee of Thales Leites and nobody got pissed.
