I’ve been following the same program ever since I started lifting seriously which was about 2 years ago. I currently train Max-OT style (5-7 sets per muscle, 4-6 reps, each muscle group once a week). Well, the mirror tells me that I’m still making progress (increased muscle separation and whatnot), but my strength gains have halted, even taken a step back in some instances. So it seems it’s time to try something new. I guess I’ve overlooked the concept of periodization for too long in my training, and I’m wondering if anyone can suggest a program that might help me bust through this plateau. Would it be best to try something that contrasts pretty drastically with my current routine? Thanks for any feedback.
MAX-OT doesn’t have the best reputation. Many think it’s a joke. It’s certianly not “THE” program to stay with forever. You do need some variety. Check the previous issues or FAQ section of T-mag. Hundred of ideas there. I’d do something with more reps per set - you know, pick something that’s very different from what you’re doing now. Maybe German volume training, occillating wave program, Staley’s EDT etc. (All at T-mag.)
BTW, I’ve always believed that “muscle separation” is a function of diet, not really training. Is that wrong?
