If he had stayed in America he would not necessarily be behind bars.
No, you are right, he would have been killed.
The government would have scooped the computer and tapped the phone fo the reporter developing the story, and as soon as the first piece of information on the story hit the web, Snowden would have died of a sudden unexplained heart attack.
A-la Breitbart.
/tinfoilhat
(Although, given what Snowden has told us. Might not be so tinfoil after all.)
Damn Beans, at first I was like, “No not you too!”
Snowden is a whistle blower that is showing the citizenry that the US Government is not abiding by the Constitution. Hero
I may be mistaken, but isn’t it the case that that is not all that he did?
Hasn’t he also released info to foreign governments about US operations?
US spying on our allies operations. He might have more information on other things, but right now all he has put out is the US Government spying on its citizens illegally, and the US Government spying on our allies. With friends like the US Government who needs enemies?

Ya well those, “Big Balls,” are gonna be locked up for 30 years so…
You are right but this is why Snowden is in Russia , he knows he will get the same Kangaroo Court Manning got. These people critisizing Snowden on another thread were calling him a beta
Eye roll
I think you have that wrong. They were calling Assange a beta because Manning faced the court instead of trying some trick to get out of it and Assange, well, he’s in full-on French runaway mode. As far as I’m aware, nobody actually called Snowden a beta.
This is how I see everything.
Manning gave away tactical knowledge of how the armed forces conduct war. Criminal
Asange gets info from insiders any means necessary, and then hides from rape charges. Criminal
Snowden is a whistle blower that is showing the citizenry that the US Government is not abiding by the Constitution. Hero
Anyone who doesn’t understand why Assange won’t go back to a country that has extradition with the U.S. only needs to look at the Manning trial.
There were more secrets given away by Ellsberg and it was the beginning of the end of that dreadful war in Vietnam. The famous video that Manning exposed showed the U.S. military killing unarmed people and a 5 year boy. What has happened to those who killed the innocents? Not to mention that Manning didn’t give away any top secrets. The info he had was available to 4-5 million eyes. None was classified as top secret.

All I have to say is, thank God men like George Washington didn’t go the Snowden route and criticize the Royal Crown while hiding in say France.
Snowden is so brave… o_o
What do you want him to do? Stay here and get fucked over? Funny how President Obama is open to dialogue regarding the NSA, yet without Snowden we wouldn’t even have a clue what was going on. The govt. is shutting down whistleblowers left and right. The beauty of the slow leak of all the Snowden info by Greenwald is that the info leak is just slow enough to catch the govt. lying the whole way. I can’t believe you are acting like Snowden is a coward. He had a great job, making great money yet gave all that up to inform the public. That is a hero my friend. The freaking head of the NSA, who outright lied to all of us, is now in charge of the “independent” group investigating the NSA. Really, and you don’t think Kangaroo courts are happening?
On point.

Oh don’t exaggerate, Beans. Nobody dies from “unexplained heart attacks” anymore.

Oh, and I take back it takes ‘‘balls’’ to rob a bank…Al Pacino’s character in the reality based Dog Day Afternoon
robbed a Bank to literally get rid of his.
Lol at being a coward for running away from what we all know is a system that is either going to kill you or put you in jail for most of your life because you told the truth.

Sure.
Just as Afghanis are cowards for not forming a 17th century firing line to be mowed down like daisies.
Unless you conform to a code of conduct that allows the US government to snuff you out at will you are a coward, live in your moms basement and are quite possibly gay.

Good post. I think another difference between the founding fathers’ situations and that of Snowden is that the founding fathers were, for all intents and purposes, in a separate country.
Their country was geographically separate from mainland England, as well as inhabited by a large number(majority? I’m not sure…but surely enough to send the most powerful military in that world back home) of folks who did not view themselves as English citizens.

You’re right, instead Afghanis use women/children as shields, very brave indeed.
