Boxing Training Schedule Critique

Anyway, I need to get this thread back to the original topic for the inquiry I need. Pretend I’m doing the holy big 3 and training like a powerlifter twice a week, is the schedule too much to recover from, on a weekly basis? Do I need to reduce the number of boxing workouts? Do I need to weight train only once a week?
Thank you.
Jesus, no. You’re doing boxercise and a bunch of little pussy exercises twice a week. If you can’t “recover” from that, you have bigger shit to worry about.

I just checked your training log to see where the attitude is coming from. You must be a very strong and competent fighter to be dashing insults in this careless manner. A YEAR ago, when I did the barbell lifts I was stronger than you are now on all of them except the squat. You also don’t spar at all, to my surprise. My training schedule is basically more filled up than yours and involves more punches to the face, probably because I have more free time. I didn’t find anything in your log or other posts that hints at where your supposed superiority is coming from. I conclude that you’re just an established member who’s been on the forum for a long time, so you get a free pass or something.

I think I got what I wanted from this thread. Loftearmen and Fightingirish indirectly answered that recovery is individual, which means it can even be built up. I’d say internet forum flaming/bickering is not that hefty a price for the information you can squeeze out.

Cheers, folks.

Haha, I don’t care if you were/are stronger in the weightroom - it’s not what I focus on. I don’t full-on spar because my shoulder pops out easily, but I take more than my share of shots. But I’m not arguing about who gets more head trauma - I put my work in and do it cause I enjoy it. I don’t put together a program with “boxercise” and leg extensions, say I want to be a fighter but I don’t want to fight, then ignore the guys who I asked for advice that tell me I’m doing it wrong.

My videos are up there. If you look better, good for you. You’re still fucking doing it wrong.

I gave all my advice, for what little it was worth, above. I just checked back in here to make bitchy comments about Irish on the internet, but I see someone beat me to it. Kids these days are so ready to e-throw-down, you can’t slack for a minute.

I actually thought you were quite reasonable. I thought to myself: ‘Londonboxer123, that FightingIrish is mellowing in his old age’.

After 17.5k posts, you were bound to lose some of your shine. I hear it’s all downhill after 15k.

This thread really took a turn for the better

:(
That’ll teach you to take time out of your day to go giving good advice to strangers on the internet. Once you reach 20k posts, the Tnation editors knock down your door in the middle of the night and turn you into Biotest products - don’t waste the last 2.5 on those who can’t be saved from themselves.

I just read this thread.

Are the OP/Egyptian and Mina the same poster or different?

Are we all supposed to have multiple accounts? That seems like a lot of work to me.

Robert A

Hahah I didn’t even realize that!

Why do people do that? I can barely remember the login info for one account - and it’s not even like a good troll job or some shit.

Loft did give some great advice though so it was worth it just for that.

He really did. You and London did well also.

Irish and I have opted for a destructive approach, rather than rising above it and remaining constructive.

Thanks yall. At least someone was listening.

Believe it or not, I came around. You probably don’t care and think I’m an asshole by now, but I just wanted Loftearmen to know his advice didn’t fall on deaf ears.

That’s what I’ll be doing:

Day 1
Floor Press 5x5-10
Weighted Chin Up 5x5-10
Box Front Squat 5x5-10
Lateral Raise 3x10-15

Day 2
Overhead Pin Press 5x5-10
Barbell Row 5x5-10
Romanian Deadlift 5x5-10
Hip Thrust 3x10-15

I’ll be sacrificing muscle mass on the lateral parts of by body, but I’ll be building strength in the trunk of my body.

Well that is certainly manning up. Well done.

Now a couple things to remember.

1.) Boxing training is still working the muscles, so you may very well not need as much “isolation” work or “accessory” work as someone who “just” lifts/bodybuilds.

2.) Fighting/boxing is skill and energy intensive, but it can be very “fuzzy” about what types of training pay off immediately, or exactly why you do better/worse in a given workout.

So don’t freak out if you have bad days, and don’t think you found the grail if you had one terrific session, with the iron or in the ring. Especially because boxing makes the assumption that the asshole in front of you has his own plans a whole lot of it is about making your “average” performance better rather than getting a once a year PR because everything fell into place.

You very much may not. Boxing works a lot of muscles, and most fighters have pretty developed shoulders. There is a lot of “light”(HA) reps in training so you may be surprised. You may also lean out even more and people will “notice” your muscles even if you think you are objectively smaller.

Are you and Mena the same? If so picking one handle and rolling with it makes it easier for the rest of us.

Robert A
