He was talking about the ‘high rate of force developement’ on the box squat due to the pause at the bottom.
For this ‘rate of force developement’ feature, what is the difference between doing a box squat, versus Anderson squat or just any old squat where you are pausing at the bottom for a specific amount of time ? Is it because with the box squat you are removing all of the load for a short time?
Also probably more knee travel over the knee in anderson squats, but you don’t really have any load at the bottom in an anderson squat besides bodyweight.
The box squat breaks the eccentric and concentric chain, this is why you can regular squat more than you can box squat. This is great because by box squatting you’re still practicing squat technique and reaping the benefits of the eccentric and concentric phase of the squat.
The Anderson squat eliminates the eccentric phase which is less than ideal if you want to hone squat technique whilst increasing strength. I used to do anderson squats when I started out and was very ‘into’ power rack training. I would choose to bottom position front squat over the back squat, too.
Personally I think there are many, many squat alternatives which are better than the anderson squat, at least for me anyway. As you know, it all boil down to what works best for YOU, and only you know the answer to that.
