box squats are used to increase your full squat and dead. both should be trained.

If by better you mean safer, I would say box squats are probably a bit safer if you have bad form and are squatting low although you shouldn’t ever do any wth bad form to begin with. Unfortunately, it is as common as bench press bad form.
I started doing box squats about a month ago, just this past week I set a PR in free squats by more than 20 pounds. I increased my free squat by doing box squats. It taught me to sit back, not down.
