Are these any good?
Can they be done without joint pain?
I think if I did these a couple of times my wrists would hate me!
Looks like a good way to fuck up your wrists, elbows, or shoulders. Why not the ballistic bench in a smith machine, it’s good enough for CT
I’m a big fan, very good explosive push-up variation. Had some guys doing them on ammo boxes at PT the other day too it worked out fairly well.
While you’re at it you should check out the rest of dario’s youtube, there’s some pretty inspirational stuff.
I think its a good idea IF your body is prepared to do these. They’ll accomplish a lot more than a ballistic bench on a smith machine, but make sure you muscles/joints are prepared to do these, and dont just jump into it.
Also, ive heard of people doing these, jumping their legs up at the same time. So basically they’d start in a pushup, and end up with their WHOLE body on a table or something similar.

Anyone remember that show Kiannas flex appeal? I was watching once and there was this ripped black guy on there [think he was an ex NFL player] who was doing these and launching himself at least two feet in the air, no shit. Everyone else on the show actually paused from their fake workouts to watch this dude for a few reps. You could totally tell Kianna wanted to fuck him after that.
Nice Hanley. I believe you can touch the sky. White flash, that is absolutely hilarious. “You could totally tell Kianna wanted to fuck him after that.”
Wasn’t there an article on this type of thing recently? Something along the lines of what is your upper body vertical leap?
Hey Guys… The past two weeks I’ve had three of my younger athletes supstitute explosive push-ups (flying push-ups) for their main repetition upper body movement. I used two 12" plyo boxes and they had to continue doing as many explosive push-ups onto the box as possible. Once they reached their max (9,11,12 week 1; 10,12,14 week 2) we dropped 2 reps off their max and they had to continue doing sets with that amount until they could no longer complete the set. The athletes were given 2 minutes rest between each set. The first week the three completed 3,5,5 sets before failing, and the second week they completed 4,5,6 sets before failing.
If you are looking for a different way to switch up your repetition or dynamic work, give this a try!!
Ryan Englebert
I will try that dynamic work Ryan thanks for the heads up.
