Boilerman Wants It All

Wanted to post up a little something non-lifting related. I’m hoping over the winter to start writing some music again, and I’m moving all my writing and recording gear from the spare bedroom down into the basement. Here are my guitars, minus my acoustic. I’ll post some old stuff up if anyone is interested/if I can find some.

Hey boilerman, can you play Gymnopédie no 1 on acoustic?

Can you play Circles by Post Malone?

Can you play Obstacles by Syd Matters?

Can you play Silver Fins - Waiting So Long (lol 1997 berserk anime ending theme)?

Lol sorry Idk if you even take music requests. I’d love to hear u play those songs though. In my opinion the piano and guitar (acoustic and electric) are both the most beautiful sounding instruments to me.

Haha, I’ll be honest… I haven’t ever heard of any of those but I will definitely take a listen and see what I can do

Yeahhh!!!

Far beyond my technical ability to be able to do it any justice

That post Malone one might be cool to record with a bit more of an ambient twist. More of a straight up pop song, but could be morphed into something cool for sure- I’ll get back to you on that!

I got to grade 4 on trombone in my youth, hated it. I’m so envious of people with real musical talent, that can listen to a song, and immediately know they could play it.

Technique is something that is soooo far beyond the scope of what I play… once anything becomes even slightly beyond my capabilities, I know it right away. Plus, I am 100% self taught… so it’s easy to know my limits haha.

I’ve said it before, but music is very similar to lifting in my eyes… I wouldn’t say I’m talented in the least, I just refuse to give up.

I’ve been playing guitar for 17 years now, only really practiced for about 8 of those years, and have been recording for about 10. Anyone can do what I do, they just have to spend the time!

I’ve had three 12 hr rooftop work days in a row, and.its about as hot as it gets in NY. Took a few temp readings and it got as high as 114 degrees for a few hours up there yesterday, and topped.out at 107 today due to radiant heat from the rubber membrane.

I was about to do this yesterday after work but I figured the full 2 weeks of rest wouldn’t hurt so I waited. Naturally, all I though about today was squats.

Depth was questionable at best on the last 5 sets… but I went down with the weight and came back up. It counts.

Ended up weighing myself last night after dinner (which ended up being a couple chicken breast, a thigh and two drumsticks, peanut butter, a salad, avocado and sour cream and about a gallon of water) and I was 200lb. I thought I was feeling lighter.

Weight seems to be trending downwards, strength seems to be trending upward. Perfect.

Still taking the micro PA and Plazma on lifting days. I already have DOMs from yesterday, which almost never happens… I pushed those final 5 sets hard. It looked like I was breaking out in my forehead when I looked in the mirror last night before bed, but I’m pretty sure it is blood vessels holding on for dear life.

Wife has commented on how “fit” I look haha. A couple days ago it was “I can see all of your abs! Are you flexing? Stop flexing!” and many comments on how my biceps look bigger.

If I can somehow hang around 200 until the end of intermediate, I think I’ll be in a great place to continue eating like I have been and put some weight back on while doing a more intense program. I am feeling recovered enough right now to finish the workouts, but I may add in a little bit more fat to up the calories a little bit thursday-sunday. Last run through, I was able to ride the metabolic wave and continue losing fat and adding muscle, even a month or two after DW was over. I want to repeat that.

Damn, every time I see the crazy results you guys are getting on DW I get more and more tempted to run a course of it. I’m just worried that my old body wouldn’t have the recovery capacity to keep up with it…

That’s where the food comes in, haha.

Ya man, you get out of it what you put in. Hit the weights hard and your body needs to try and keep up. I certainly agree with @T3hPwnisher that food is the most important part. I know that I’m teetering close to the edge of recovery right now. I could definitely get away with eating a decent amount more, but my schedule is such that I’ve kind of reached my limit, which is why I essentially gorge on weekends or whenever time allows. Like right now, I am typing and eating spoonfuls of peanut butter.

Maybe just try the 6 week beginners program and see if you like it. It’s a short commitment but both times.ive run it, I’ve seen immediate (within 2 weeks) changes.

I’m already doing this with my 2-3 days/week 5/3/1 and not gaining any weight. I eat well over 2K calories on a normal day in whole food, sometimes over 3K, and on top of that I put down over 1K calories/day in fortified protein shakes (whole milk+whole egg+protein powder+50g quick oats) per day. I don’t think I have the capacity to digest any more than I already am.

On the other hand, I may just be making excuses not to try it. I have a solid 6 months before I hit reset time on 5/3/1 since I’m still hitting 10 reps on the 1+ AMRAP sets, so maybe after I hit that I’ll try the DW beginners program for some base building.
