That looks delicious. Something of an aside, I searched “weights” on Ithaca’s Craigslist, the results were sparse but one of them actually was for selling a half cow by weight lol. I’ve never done it but if it’s widely available in the region I might give it a shot
Yeah man there is definitely a lot of farm land out that way I’d bet a lot of people around there do that. Seems like such an awesome and convenient way to get all the beef you want haha. I’ve always wanted to split a cow between me and a buddy or two but we just haven’t ever pulled the trigger on it.
Funny that the cow came up on a craigslist search for weights tho haha. Kind of a perfect fit
What a manly dish @boilerman
The food looks good too!

Busy day today. Got my first stab of drugs courtesy the US govt today around 1030am. Ended up working a little later than expected so tonights stuff got pushed back a little bit.
Flat bench felt good, and I almost had the 3x10. One rep better than last week so it’s an improvement. Close grip goes to 3 min rest next week and incline goes to 3 min as well.
Gotta get mentally and physically prepared for the next two weeks. Going to be wild.
Also- quick and easy dinner. Took me ten minutes to make
1lb 90/10 ground beef, 1/4 block pepper jack cheese, spinach arugala salad with blue cheese
Eating like an absolute champ, sure this will fortify you sufficiently for the next two weeks!
I sure hope so. I’ve been noticing my hunger has been getting way more intense lately. I can almost pinpoint the second when the fuel is gone haha.
The terrible part is that I don’t always have access to food at that moment so I stay hungry, sometimes for a couple.hours. I’m still trying to figure out the schedule of when the hunger hits so it’s kind of a shot in the dark at this point unfortunately… My main work around for it is just to eat more at every meal
You not able to carry water and protein powder for emergencies?
To add on, quest bars are Jon Andersen approved.
@alex_uk @T3hPwnisher yeah both of those things have crossed my mind. I really have no excuse to not have something in my pockets or stashed in the van for emergencies. My main issue at work is that I have no set schedule. I lay out my plans the day prior, and it all ends up going to shit pretty much every single day. Sometimes I start at a job at 7am and end up not making it back out to my van until 1-2pm, which at that point I just eat my lunch.
I’ve just been eating a large breakfast before work, if I have time I’ll eat some PB around 10, I pack a large lunch which I make sure to carve out time for (usually just scarf it down in the van between jobs) then eat a bit when I get home from work, dinner 1 and dinner 2. Seems to be working well for me but I think adding a bit to breakfast would do me some good so I’m not banking on that 10 o’clock meal to get me through to lunch.
Things get a little crazy on weekends, especially if I get service calls. Those have been few and far between but they’re becoming more regular lately.
I’m not actually opposed to feeling hungry one bit, I like the feeling more than being full to be honest. My one and only concern at this point is… is it conducive to being recovered and prepared for the next lifting day?
In my eyes just due to the layout of lifting days I get a whole lot of time to play with during the week. Might miss a snack here and there but I try to make up for it at night, if that makes sense.
Edit: so while I was typing that out, I ate my lunch. It’s 11am, but I had a few mins before doing paperwork to scroll a bit and eat.
Can you stash a couple of quest bars in your tool bag?
Also nothing wrong with being hungry, as long as you’re getting cals in later, I tend to only eat 3-5 meals a day even when gaining.
I 100% get this. Hunger is far more primal. I feel alert, light and ready. Full is civilized: no good, haha. You sound like you’d dig Ori Hofmekler’s Warrior Diet. Fasting in the day, feasting in the evening. Jamie Lewis had a similar approach with the Apex Predator diet. They’re both on my “to do” list for nutrition…but I’d have to be away from family first, haha.
Ya I could find a way to do that. This was much more of a “shit, I’m hungry all the time now!” Complaint rather than a “I’m not getting enough food in!” complaint. If I’m on the fence about how many cals I got in during the day I make sure to crush food throughout the evening to make up for it.
Yeah and that’s the main difference I’ve been seeing between my 531 runs and this deepwater one. Not sure if I’m just more in tune with my body or something, but I am starting to be able to tell when I am running out of fuel and when I NEED to eat. During 531 I ate because I thought it would increase my lifts, even though I wasn’t always hungry. Probably put on a bit more fat than I should’ve, but… live and learn right?
I completely agree. I absolutely despise being full. It’s terrible getting around at work, and doing anything physical while full is no good. I also hate going to bed stuffed to the gills.
I’ve never heard of those diet protocols but they sound like they’d be a good fit for me when I switch the goal the fat loss. I’d have no issue skipping breakfast and lunch haha. Before I started lifting that’s essentially what I did… but I was also a tiny person at that time haha.
To add to these last few diet posts…
Weighed myself this morning and I was 209lbs. This means since January I’ve put on about 3lbs. I have without a doubt put on muscle, so this is pretty awesome. I am (to my untrained eyeballs) leaner than I was in january so that means less fat, more muscle.
My waist feels tighter, I’m having a fun time putting on my work jeans in the morning (and have started to blow through a couple pairs), shirts are starting to hug my shoulders, chest and arms a bit more and I’ve had to retire a few shirts all together.
Super happy with DW so far and I’m honestly even more excited to transfer what I’ve learned these past few months to future programs.
Also, I am so ready to start losing some weight. I’d be happy with dropping back to high 190’s through the advance program and maintain for a month or two there, then jump back on the gain train.
Have to get through the last 2 weeks of intermediate before I switch to that mentality though. Gotta keep shoveling food.
God man i want some of this deep water
