Boilerman Wants It All

How ya feeling? I’m hoping you gave yourself a few days to recover and that you’re feeling better!

Thank you for the check in. I haven’t lifted since the last post but got some in today after work. Still quite achy in my joints… knees and elbows specifically. The exhaustion seems to come in waves. I’ll be alright for 2-3 weeks and then I’m hit with it for a few weeks. It seems almost cyclical. I haven’t done any digging whatsoever on it, and am hoping my follow-up appointment in October can possibly shine some light on it.

I’m sorry to hear that things still aren’t normal. I’ll keep you in my prayers. Hang in there and listen to your body - don’t overdo it.

When you see the doctor ask about Lyme Disease. I’ve had several clients with the same cyclical-type symptoms and the most common diagnoses have been - some type of arthritis, Fibromyalgia, Lyme Disease, or post-viral (usually Covid) weirdness.

Keep us posted and let me know if there’s anything I can do to help you!

Thank you for the advice- lyme is certainly something that has been in the back of my brain for a while now. I will absolutely bring that up at the next appointment, as well as the other ones.

Switched back to DC. I just haven’t had the consistency needed for BtM.

Working 60+ a week including side jobs, with the longest day being a 19 hour haul. Worked until 1am.

I have lifted 5 times this month, which is more or less on par with months previous. I just can’t stop lifting all together. Life is busy but I can always find short periods of time to do it.

@QuadQueen had another bout of whatever has been going on. Felt absolutely horrible for about a week and I’m just getting out of the worst of it now. Sleep has been terrible during this bout. I’m getting 4.5-5 hours and have been waking up with my heart racing.

I’ve been using the Fitbit again to keep track of sleep and HRV because it seems to be a great indication of when I am feeling bad. I used to hover in the low 100’s when I’m feeling good and lately I’ve been between 30-60. It seems like my body doesn’t like something and is increasing my heart rate because of it. It’s showing my RHR as low to mid 50 bpm, so I’m not sure how that works, but it’s been more or less spot on between HRV and my general wellness.

Good to see you getting it done, despite the crazy schedule!

Hope you get to the bottom of whatever’s been getting you down.

I hate this so much for you!! Is there any way you can get in to see your doctor sooner than your upcoming appointment? Some lab work might help determine what’s going on. I’m still leaning toward Lyme’s and I’d also recommend asking for a full hormone workup - testosterone, cortisol, etc. Your symptoms point to just a state of chronic stress and/or inflammation. If you can get in sooner, just to rule out something more serious it would be great, even if it’s just for piece of mind.

You’re in my prayers and I’m here if you need anything I can help with or just want to talk.

Late to the party on this one fella, but I use it also to track resting HR. For me it’s a good indication on recovery. If I’ve been doing ‘too much’ my RHR starts to climb up. But sometimes ‘too much’ actually isn’t much work at all it seems. Or it’s an age thing here now (for me that is!)

But doing those long work hours is going to massively eat into your recovery ability on all fronts, so parking the lifting till work load reduces might be a good option, or just some really light minimal lifts to keep some maintenance work in there…

Thanks to all three of you. I scheduled an additional appointment for Thursday with another doctor, just to be seen sooner rather than later.

I’ve been getting a good amount of lifting in lately (DC) and diet has been reasonable and more or less healthy with a few cheat-ey binges here and there. Weighing around 193-196 with full blown abs and the best vascularity I think I’ve ever had. I honestly think I’m looking pretty decent right now.

Also have still been using the fitbit… step count average is in the 18k ballpark.

I ended up going back for more blood work and no real smoking gun from the normal ranges they provide. I haven’t spoken to my doctor as of yet as everything seems to be normal.

Metabolic panel came back spot on except for albumin which was above the normal range.

Rheumatoid factor is less than 3.5 seemingly ruling out rheumatoid arthritis.

I am scheduling a sleep study to check for sleep apnea.

Testosterone results are as follows. I have no idea what I’m looking at so anyone with any experience please share your knowledge

Also wanted to edit to add that they mentioned my resting heart rate being fairly low at 53bpm and I had drank an energy drink on the way in to the office. The nurse seemed somewhat concerned but the doctor didn’t bring it up during the appointment.

Green means go!

Well if that isn’t a confusing response, I don’t know what is, haha.

I’m assuming you’re saying green=good, then yes it is within the normal range, for sure. Free T is in the low end of the normal range which is only concerning because I’m having symptoms of low T.

Missed this, good to see you posting a bit, sorry the health stuff isn’t great.

The Testosterone test is worth repeating a few times, in the interim you can try all of the things that might naturally raise it. One culprit for you might be poor sleep, given having little ones, being busy at work etc. If you can get a week or two of really solid sleep then re-test. Also the usual d3, zinc, omega 3s, raise the fats in your diet a little bit, don’t drink alcohol, try the biotest supps, reduce stress wherever possible, ksm-66, keep the training up but not excessive, bit of a cardio etc.

See if they help the blood levels and the symptoms.

I was on a great lifting streak up until a couple weeks ago.. lots of side work and then a beautiful and much needed vacation kind of sidetracked me for a bit, but I’ll be back to regularly logging. Still lots of side work so I’ll be getting stuff in when I have the chance.

My buddies podcast with Dave Tate dropped last week sometime and imo it was great. Dude deserves every good thing that happens to him and it’s great to see more recognition coming his way.

Weighing low to mid 190’s lately but pretty lean and strength is still kind of there.

Thanks for the advice dude - and you’re likely correct that lifestyle is having a serious (or likely the only cause) in how I’m feeling.

I have to say that during vacation I was feeling outstanding. I slept in (ish), was lively and energetic throughout every day and had minimal issues with pain other than that which comes with sleeping on a bed that isn’t mine. I truly think that work and life stress is the major factor at play here.

I wish I had a baseline for the testosterone test, but have never had it checked before. I guess now is as good a time as any to begin monitoring it as I grow older.

Definitely did not feel recovered from the last couple of sessions, but I had some spare time this morning to lift so I took advantage. I can’t remember the last time I did a straight up BB Back squat. Looks like I’m starting back at ground zero on them.

Off to a hike with the family at a nearby park to see some waterfalls (my sons favorite).
