Boilerman Wants It All

I can’t wait for the write up Boilerman.

Nice looking dinner dude, I swear you always nail it with food presentation.

Thank you man, it ended up being pretty awesome.

10K challenge

Like I said a few posts ago, I’m super happy with how this ended up. I cut my original time in half in the four weeks and feel way more confident in my conditioning. Also, it reinforced the fact that grinding through the pump and pain makes you better.

I didn’t start this challenge with the thought that I’d put on muscle. I had a feeling that it just wasn’t going to happen, and I’d spend a month just working on getting my conditioning better and maybe trim some fat. I was mistaken. I’m not sure if it was the challenge, or just taking a break from the weights and allowing my body to try to adapt to another stimulus (and recover from heavy lifting) but I, and others, have noticed some changes in the past month.

I don’t think I cut much fat, if any, but it seems as though I’ve put on some muscle. The most notable changes happened in my traps, forearms, quads and core. I’ve had many people, especially in the past couple weeks, tell me I’m looking bigger or “jacked”. That’s great and all, but I personally feel like I’m starting to actually fill out my frame a bit which is a huge win for me. I don’t feel like a skinny underfed adult anymore. I feel capable and strong.

Eating hasn’t changed much, if at all. I stuck with what I know works- deepwater diet and a few breaks to eat carbs and fruit because I was hungry. Once I start the “6” month program, I’ll be more focused on keeping carbs out. I haven’t weighed myself but I may after work just to see where I’m at.

I can definitely see myself running this again. I feel like it is a great way to continue pushing my body, but also allow it some time to actually recover from heavy lifting.

I might take a day or two break and hit some more swings and additional conditioning, or I will possibly just jump right into BBBB tonight. Not quite sure what I want to do yet. I have a really good feeling about this upcoming block, though.

Glad you did the writeup!

The grind is everything on those 50 reppers!

I definitely didn’t have that expectation either but after 1/10 of the program I’m 100% convinced that the body parts you listed are going to grow on me, too.

Great write-up, @boilerman!

That’s a training win, for sure, but even better: it’s a big LIFE win. Congrats, my dude!

Can’t wait to see where you take it from here.

It’s been so enjoyable watching you casually slaughter this challenge. You are setting the example for others here my dude, and building something terrifying in the process.

Absolutely!! For me, it was a huge change in what I normally would do, which I feel like helped. Also, I didn’t expect the assistance stuff would make as much of an impact as it ended up making. Adding a rep per set a week ended up being absolutely horrible by the end, haha. The goblet squats are the worrsstttttt.

Thank you so much Sven, I am definitely happy it’s all coming together!

Thank you man, that means a LOT coming from you. I’m just doing what I can with the opportunities that present themselves. What also makes it easier is coming to the realization that it’s not going to kill me to push myself. Yeah it sucks and it hurts, but I want to get better. A wise man has been saying something along the lines of “the work is already done, you just have to sit back, relax, and watch it play out”.

Made a quick change on my deadlift TM during warmups and added ten lbs. I realized I would’ve technically been regressing with the DL TM I planned on using compared to the last run of bbbb. This is a 3’s week and I blew right through it, so everything should still be ok.

I destroyed the BBB sets. My conditioning is stupid right now and I had to actively slow myself down and take a rest. I was ready to go after 30 seconds.

Ribeye tonight for dinner.

And right into this! Good stuff.

3/4lb ribeye, 5 pieces of bacon, whole avocado, bowl of air fried cauliflower with green onions and adobo sauce

This might be one of my favorite go to meals. Love it.

You’re in the US right ? The rest of the world has different bacon. LOL

Haha yeah, I believe it. It’s probably on par with the majority of the meat sold at a grocery store here. This stuff is basically just strips of fat. I can get my hands on some way better quality stuff when I go to the guys a state over from me or from some guys near me when they have it, but those times are few and far between. So, in the meantime, I just eat this stuff like candy!

I actually really like the crispy bacon that I ate when I visited the states many years ago. The bacon there from what I saw tended to be what I call streaky bacon which comes from the fatty belly and is very tasty. Here is Australia we tend to use middle bacon which is the streaky belly part but also has a piece of the meaty loin attached. If you cook it too long the meaty part gets too dry, so the trick is to still have a crispy streaky park but keep the loin mean soft.

This log rocks, I wanted to do this (10k) after I saw you started but I tweaked a tendon in my forearm so didn’t think it was wise to destroy my grip and forearms swinging like a madman. It’s on my list of challenges I’d like to do one day. I’m thinking of doing beefcake after my program I’m following now is over. I tried to do it once before and didn’t Last very long because I hurt something else lol. Either way I’ll be following along as a template but keep it up my bro, your killing it!!

I would absolutely recommend the challenge when your arms are feeling better! I love the results I’m seeing from it. Also, thank you very much for the kind words dude

Can’t go wrong with beefcake, either. I loved the results I saw from it the last time I ran that program as well

Definitely didn’t feel glorious, haha
