You can really go to town on trap bars, I have pulled 70+ over my straight bar max and pulled something like 450 x 10 when I probably couldn’t have done 450 once on straight bar. Fantastic way to get volume and work in
I’m wondering if it ends up translating to straight bar? I might tack some reps on the end of a few days and just add one or two a week just to get used to the lift and get some extra volume in. It’d be awesome if it ended up adding some weight or reps to the straight bar while I take a break from conventional
I haven’t been consistent enough with straight bar (or lifting in general) to discern any immediate impact plus it takes me like 4 weeks of technique work before I feel comfortable with straight but it is going to put mass on you and work a relatively similar set of muscles, so chances are you’ll get some carryover. Worst case scenario is you’ll get bigger, stronger, and good at a different lift.
You considering doing the pwn high-rep death set?
That sounds alright to me haha
I don’t really have a specific plan, but it may end up that way. I was thinking of just putting on 315-335 or so and hitting it for 5 and adding a rep or two a week until I can’t anymore. That should also buy me some time to hopefully get some used 45’s or a good deal on a pair of new ones.

Pretty happy with front squat form. Definitely need to work on wrist mobility though… it feels like I’m going to snap them in half on those higher rep sets. I haven’t done front squats more than a few times, so once I start doing them every week(ish) my mobility should improve. My legs were far from the weak link on the 50% sets, which kind of sucks. I’ll keep hammering away at them and once I can get a good rack I’ll see the weight shoot up like crazy.
That’s a beautiful front squat boilerman!
That looks great. I can’t remember where or when but @Bagsy shared some good front-rack videos, she might be able to dig those up again. It’s less about wrist mobility than you think. While 100% worthwhile to get a strong front rack, you can use straps if it is causing you discomfort.
Thank you dude!
Thanks man, and I feel like if I were just able to keep my elbows up higher it’d feel way better. I’ll definitely try it out with straps
Did I share videos? I can’t remember. I like Juggernaut’s videos on squats in general, and I know they cover front squats step-by-step.
Some people claim that a poor front rack is sometimes due to tight lats or something, but I don’t really know.
6 points to my normally shoddy memory!
Edit: I haven’t rewatched it but I think that is what I was referencing
2 mile snowy walk with the dog this AM, breakfast, and then the 20 rep challenge round two. 265x20, 265x20
Awesome!
I don’t know how you kept your breakfast down during that!
Thanks dude!
I can’t remember the last time I puked or had the feeling I might puke. It has to have been 10+ years since the last time. I have no idea why haha.
A little over an hour of shoveling, half an hour of running in the back yard with the dog to finish off the day.
Had a 2.25 lb grass fed chuck roast cooking for about 7 hours. Ate roughly half of it.

Eating some.carbs in the form of fruit and using some.plazma as well. Pretty sure I’m “topped off” because I have a stupidly ridiculous pump.
Got super light headed on the press and my vision started getting whacky. Might just be the log, though. Grip strength was the limiting factor on the rows.
I’m going to try to find a bunch of movements that I suck at or have little practice in and get better at them. I don’t think I’ve ever done wide grip pull ups, but they felt ok.
How is your salt intake these days?
Now that you mention it, I’m taking in a slight bit less than I had been during the summer. I’ve been eating less red meat than usual, and that’s typically the vehicle for my salt intake… Thank you for the reminder to stay on top of it!
Edit: also, I’ve noticed that since I recovered from covid I’ve had some pretty strange and random after-effects. All of a sudden I’ll be exhausted or lightheaded… I’ll wake up in the morning and feel like I’ve smoked 2 packs of cigarettes, feeling hot or sweating randomly… Nothing too crazy but worth noting.
check you’re blood oxygen stats.
THere’ve been some pretty scary stories of ppl who got covid, felt fine and “recovered” by then had serious complications from o2 randomly tanking
