I have been oly lifts almost exclusively since about March of this year. One of the benchmarks has been to snatch my BW. I finally got it today!! 80kg!
I got the flu the week of my last meet, dropped some weight, and i weighted in at 76.86 kilos so i got to compeate at 77. I have put on some weight (80kg) and i will lift in the 85 class next meet. So the guys will out weight me about 10 lbs but it is what it is.
I am pretty sure i can snatch 85 because 80 was real easy. My next meet is a week from this Saturday wish me luck.
Congrats man! Thats awesome. I’ve been doing oly lifts since June trying to hit that same benchmark. I’m a bit heavier, but on my way as well.
What kind of reps/sets you use?
Correct me if I’m wrong, cuz my knowledge here is very limited, but I’m thinking a BW snatch is solid, and 1.5X is great (?) How does that compare in local competitions? Again, congrats.

A 1.5X bodyweight snatch would put most male lifters at the national level (in the US). Exceptions are the heavier weight classes (105, 105+) where there are fewer doing over 1.5X

A BW snatch will make you competative at a local level. You may or may not win but at least you won’t be at the bottom. 1.5xBW snatch would probably put you close to winning at a national level if you had a good C&J.
A 2xBW snatch is redicilous. Probably less than a 1000 people can do that. You can probably see everyone on Earth that can acomplish that lift in China soon.
My sets and reps change and are complcated. My coach figures out all my weights and sets but they change week to week. I usually do 9 week training cycles.
very nice. I started power snatching a couple of weeks back, am at about .75xbw at the moment, eventually i’ll teach myself the squat portion of the lift and hopefully my poundages will increase.
awsome job! i always wanted that when i was practicing them alot over a year ago, but then my back wouldnt allow, i was just fooling around the other day and got a 20 lb pr (and possibly a bit more in the tank if i wanted to get really ugly) at 185lbs…which would have been bodyweight…except now i weigh 200…which i’m also glad for (another milestone for me) but now puts me back to a less than bw snatch haha, hopefully if i start practicing it again, i’ll get there soon too!
(just psyched it went up that much not even practing the movement other than a couple every few months jsut to try for fun so i thought i would share haha!)

I used to snatch now and again in my gym, although its hard as you cant drop the weight and its in a small garage and is dangerous if you fall over.
However after a few weeks i did a 75 kg snatch. Not amazing but was ok for a beginner, I weigh 90 kg though so not that good.
Hopefully someday i will have a better location for doing them properly with rubber plates etc[/quote]
I don’t have bumper plates either. But I have a nice dirt area in my yard. I do them there and just drop the weight in the dirt…
