Have any of you used the weighted vest? How do they work? If you buy a 75 pound one, can you adjust the weight, or is it simply 75 pounds? I have been looking into getting one, I think they are a great idea. Any suggestions?[/quote]

Usually you can adjust the weight in those vests. They have a bunch of pockets for weights.

You can also go to your local Dive Shop and get a Diver’s Belt. That’s what I did. It works pretty good and I imagine is alot cheaper.

This is just my own personal opinion but say you wanted to become a master at olympic lifts you wouldnt go to a powerlifter and expect a perfect carry over from there to olifts. Same with this why would you do matt fureys program is you truly want to build amazing strength through bodyweight (the whole argument is retarded to me anyways muscles contract and thats how they get stronger/bigger they dont care weather you are military pressing 200 lbs or are doing an ironcross) you should go look at gymnasts and their workout they dont do hindu pushups in amazing numbers but they are pretty strong.

I think in the end its not what you lift (weights or body) but what would work better for you. I do gymnastics and breakdancing natrually my workouts involve a lot more bodyweight movements simply because it works for me. (I still deadlift and squat and military press though) And in the end you are striving for the same thing Maximum muscular contraction weather its benchpress 400 lbs or being able to do a planch pushup. Simply whichever one suits your needs better is what you should do.

The TBK fitness is available as an e book for a few $.
have a look at http://www.ironsports.tv/bookletpage.html.
They look naff with the drawings and names but that is just the authors humour.

Was wondering if anyone was familiar with the following bodyweight exercise programs:

  • Ross Enamait, “The Underground Guide to Warrior Fitness”
  • Tamir Katz, “TBK Fitness”
  • Matt Furey, “Combat Conditioning”
  • Pavel Tsatsouline, “The Naked Warrior”
  • John Peterson, “Pushing Yourself to Power”
  • John Davies, “Feel the Force”

Not over 35 yet either, but being in the military for a while i’m fairly familiar w/ bodyweight excercises. I really like Enamait’s stuff. Plus you don’t feel like you got riped off. His cardio plans in his boxing book are awesome.

Pavel didn’t really do it for me…I couldn’t get into doing just two excercises. Its not bad as a supplemental, I just wouldn’t base a whole routine on it. His Greasing the groove theory is definitely worthwhile, if you want to do a gazilion push-ups or whatever.

If you want a good routine check out
http://www.trainforstrength.com/index.shtml he has some good starter routines…especially if you are into HIIT.

Here is a SEAL workout I picked up somewhere. It’s 23 weeks and increases in reps every week…if you’re interested PM me your email address and i’ll send you the whole excell sheet…The number next to the excercise is the count-
