BodyBuildings Biggest Myths...

i was wondering what everyone’s take on the biggest myths in bodybuilding. it can be anything, from the myth of HGH that increases intestines size to arnolds real measurements.

Myth:

I too can look like Arnie, as long as I have the determination and drive that he did, and of course as long as I train as he did.

Myth 1: That women can get “toned” by lifting 2 to 3 pound dumbells doing high repititions for years and years.

Conversely,

Myth 2: That women can get huge and look just like a man by lifting very heavily (without the use of male hormones, hgh, etc.)

Also:
-Spot reducing
-Machines that do the work for you

How about that you can build your bicep’s peak. They love that one.

Nick

How about that 300 pound bodybuilders with 2% bodyfat DON’T use drugs.

now, thats a myth to the common person.

That everyone who bodybuilds is uneducated, and we can’t carry on an intelligent conversation,we’re all either, strippers, bouncers, or construction workers.
Everyone with a decnet build is automatically on drugs

I’ve heard that bodybuilders who have gaps in between their front two upper teeth is caused by HGH. If this is true then how does it do this?

i would say out of all the myths, this one irritates me the most.

another would be that all teen bodybuilders are stupid.

well, this is less of a myth and more of a stereotype.

By restarting growth of the mandible and maxilla. Increase the growth of the surrunding bone and the teeth slowly move apart. You can probably see this more on the pro bodybuilder, Nasser than any others. That doesn’t mean everyone with gaps in their teeth uses GH just like it doesn’t mean that everyone with gyno uses steroids.

That pullovers “expand” the ribcage.

That Ayn Rand can teach us something about bodybuilding.

That carbs make you fat.

That someone knows how to be an effective trainer because they look good.

That someone doesn’t know what they are talking about because they DON’T look good.

That, for whatever reason, Ronnie Coleman is not a nice guy.

That squats/deadlifts/insert-your-favorite-exercise-here are bad for your back.

That was all that came to me off the top of my head.

1-5 reps make you “blocky”
6-10 reps for bodybuilding muscle
12+ reps for “toned”

Doing concentration curls to hit the “upper bi”

Just to name a few.

Few of my favorites.
When you stop lifting, all that muscle will turn into fat.
All bodybuilders are gay.
Lifting weights will stunt your growth.

I don’t think this is a myth. HGH can increase smooth muscle size.

“I don’t need to work my legs because I use the stationary bike 3 times a week for 45 min in my fat burning zone”

  1. Squats, bench presses and deadlifts are all inherently dangerous movements, which the average fitness enthusiast has no reason to include in their program.

  2. Anabolic/Androgenic drugs make it easier (in terms of the input of effort required) to gain muscle and maintain a high lean/fat ratio.

  3. A woman should not train the same way as a man (i.e. heavy), if she wishes to build a lean and (so-called) “feminine” physique.

  4. Women are inherently weaker than men, and cannot train on the same level as their male counterparts.

  5. Physicians are knowledgeable in matters of exercise and nutrition, simply because they are physicians.

  6. Somewhere out there is a magical program/diet that will bring nearly instantaneous results without the need for hard work.

  7. That age predicted maximum heart-rate (and any percentage thereof), has any real scientific accuracy or significance in the training of healthy individuals.

  8. Steady-state moderate intensity exercise is the best overall form of exercise to deplete bodyfat.

  9. That all personal trainers are all ignorant kids; or conversely that certification indicates a personal trainer is in any way qualified to train anyone (depending on who you talk to).

  10. That the RDA’s (or equivalent standards) represent anything more than the minimum nutrient intake levels necessary to prevent an average sedentary person from manifesting symptoms of clinical deficiency; that they are in any way indicative of “optimal” intake levels for anyone.

Isn’t this thread about myths?

Re what Omega_Red wrote:

I totally agree, I hate this , and it seems that everybody thinks that it’s true, people just need to be more educated, and learn how far a little dtermination can go if used the right way.

“Steroids make your weiner shrink”

I wish this was true, in my case that is:)
“Sancho”

Working out your “inner pecs”.
“If its on the label, its in the product”

cool, i have a 1 mm gap between my two front teeth. that makes me MYTHical
