Bodybuilding Research

Hey guys,

I’m doing my university psychology dissertation on bodybuilding, which is reliant on me being able to distribute a survey to as many bodybuilders as possible (18+ years old and active in bodybuilding for at least 6 months). This research has the potential to be published as a scientific article if executed well and with enough participants. This could be very beneficial for furthering our knowledge of bodybuilding. It would be very kind and helpful if you could take just 10 minutes out of your day (when I filled out the pilot study, it only took me 5 minutes) to fill in this survey and pass it along to any other bodybuilders you know or know of.

Thank you in advance!

I filled it out.

Is this for bodybuilders or people who lift weights? Do power lifters count? What about folks like me who just want to be generally fit?

When you use the word bodybuilders, I assume you mean people who compete at the amateur and professional levels of the sport?

I think there was a different survey he posted in the powerlifting forum a few days ago

BrickHead - Thank you kindly, sir!

kravi - Sorry if it doesn’t seem very clear, but I’ve repetitively used the word “bodybuilder” very specifically on both this post and the participant information page on the survey. This survey is specifically for people who bodybuild, not powerlifters or crossfitters or people who do a mix of training types. It doesn’t matter to me if the participants are competitive on any level, so long as they train specifically to get bigger/hypertrophy.

Facepalm_Death - That is a different survey and I chose not to post both surveys together so that only participants who train specifically in either method would fill them out. I don’t want any powerlifter/bodybuilder hybrids or anything, just bodybuilders for this.

Took it for you. Hope it helps you out.

Davinci.v2 - Thank you very much! It does help me a lot, I appreciate it.

done

Done.

I’d love to hear more about the results/reasoning for the study if you’re at liberty to discuss at some point.

S

Yogi - Thank you very much!

The Mighty Stu - Thanks, Stu! Did you leave your email address in the box before the questionnaire by any chance? Once I’ve completed the report, handed it in and got my feedback (probably sometime in early April, but potentially a bit later) I’ll be emailing all those who left their addresses and attaching copies of the report to whoever wants to see it.

Done. Only question i didn’t know how to properly answer was the bench to chest or not.

outed! We’ve got ourselves a half repper here!

Hahah well i do both both just depends.

Is this one different than the powerlifting one I filled out about a week ago for you?

Assignment complete!

That was… Interesting.

Can I ask what you are hoping to get out of this research? The conclusion will be interesting.

I found many of the choices to be at odds at times, agreeing or disagreeing with both, but am curious of the results.

Questions like the “If I ruled the world…” are a bit ambiguous at best. I think you are probably looking for Narcissism or something here, but its quite an open question to draw anything meaningful from I think. Likewise you could find it easy to manipulate someone, but still not like the feeling of doing it to them.

As I said, its interesting and I await whatever conclusions you draw from it.

Thanks again to all who participated!

Ecchastang - This is the same survey, however I needed a way of separating the results of the powerlifters and the bodybuilders. It would have been preferable if both groups were unaware of the opposing survey in an effort to stop people participating in both (I require bodybuilders OR powerlifters, not people who are hybrids of both), but hopefully this message will now deter people who are active in both from participating (please, for the sake of valid and replicable science).

Lonnie123 - After I’ve handed in the completed report and received marking, I will be able to give a more detailed debriefing on the study to all who left their email addresses in the box, and will attach copies of the report when it’s no longer possible for my work to be plagiarised. Thank you for taking an interest in the study and I’m sure you’ll find the data interesting in the end!

BUMP Almost hit my target number of participants

I suppose you’ve answered this before, but when are you getting your mark? I’m a psychology undergrad as well and so, this really intrigues me.

Mikebox - This gets handed in late March, and it’s unclear so far as to when exactly I can expect to see my marks, but I’m hoping it won’t be too many weeks afterwards! Thanks for taking an interest, and good luck with your studies
