Good post, good read.
But, but… I’m super special, are you sure any of these things apply to ME???
What about power cleans?
Contrast showers?
great post. i wish i would have followed a 5/3/1 type of program when i started instead of trying ones i saw in BB mags.

Thanks again guys! Really appreciate all the positive feedback!
Was speaking to a lad the other day, thought I’d share the story;
At 17 years old he’s quite a cocky little git, but he seemed quite shy/nervous when speaking to me so I gave him a chance (lol). The first thing he starts talking about was bodybuilding (asking how much I bench…the usual questions…do you take drugs, or that protein powder, how big’s your arms? etc lol).
Anyway, it got round to his mate (similar age…18ish) who I asked about. His mate had “blown up” over the past year which I found really impressive for a younger one! Especially considering his small structure. The guy I was talking to kept downing his mate saying stuff like, “yeah he can bench 350lbs, but his ROM is terrible!” or “yeah he’s a lot bigger, but look at his stomach”.
I just laughed it off and asked more about his mate since most his age are usually only interested in hot abs and have the attention span of a 3 year old and hyperactivity of a squirrel on amphetamines! Apparently his mate would not even consider drugs either.
What was his “secret”? He’s dating a girl who’s dad is a lifetime bodybuilder (20+ years)! That is: someone to look up to, someone to want to impress, someone who knows what they’re talking about, someone who’ll smack them in the head if they get distracted, someone who makes sure they’re eating and reassures them that their abs aren’t gonna run away
Despite being an immature teenager, he looked up to the more experienced (didn’t argue or think he knew better), put his head down, made the best use of his hormones, ate for it, lifted like he was going to compete at a meet…and in one year made 3x the progress than the average adult who’s spent 3+ years in the gym!
Now that’s motivational
Great post.
It would be great if this, and the routine from 'do this routine instead of that dumb one;, and one or two of the good nutrition posts could be linked and force fed to all newbies!
God, I wish I could have this, some more specific training info, and nutritional info forced into me 7 years ago. But I guess bodybuilding is a journey and you just get better as time rolls by

I’m considering making it a part of the bodybuilding sticky, but I have to read through it.

Nice thread
Sticky
PM mr popular to see if he feels it is suitable for the ‘Best Of’ sticky.
As informative and helpful as this thread is, and as much as I appreciate you taking the time to write it out – and not to be insulting by saying this – it nevertheless doesn’t rank high enough to deserve its own spot as a ‘sticky’.
