'Bodybuilders Ain't Strong'

They are doing a raw push/pull. It will be intersting to see. I predict Jackson wins with a low 1200 total.

Im not understanding the argument here. Bodybuilders are strong, powerlifters are stronger. You guys are using Coleman’s deadlift as the rule here. If you compare that to the best PL pulls its not even close.

Powerlifters are obviously going to be better at putting up more weight in the three lifts that they specialize in, but the point being made is that this isn’t a very accurate measure of “strength” on whole, because powerlifters use the shortest range of motion possible, the greatest leverage possible, for only one repitition… while bodybuilders do the exact opposite. If one lifts 500lbs over a 4 inch range of motion using leg drive and tucked elbows, and the other lifts 400lbs for reps over a 9 inch range of motion, using no leg drive and their elbows flared out, who is “stronger”?

And that’s beside the fact that bodybuilders would be miles ahead of powerlifters in many many other exercises BESIDES the big three.

I guess you have never seen Kostantinov deadlift? Thats a huge range of motion.

In what exercises are bbs so much stronger in? Curls? Pullups? Dips? No! If you say lat pulldowns or some crap like that you are still wrong.

When the best athletes in the world want to get stronger they train like PL, not like bodybuilders.

For the record I enjoy seeing any feat of strength from any athletic background. 405lb incline presses from any athlete is super strong.

When you see Jacksons and whites totals you will see that many many PLers are much stronger.

…and many many aren’t. It’s nice to see all of these generalizations being thrown around…especially when the strongest people on this site are also no doubt some of the largest.

But then, we get bombarded with little guys crying, “RELATIVE STRENGTH!!” from the mountain tops. We get stories of how ants are “relatively stronger” than a raging rhinoceros when we all know that if you had a choice between which one you would want charging at you, not one fucker would claim they would enjoy being rammed by a fucking mammoth.

Bodybuilders train THE MUSCLE. They are not simply throwing up weight just to see how much gets in the air. Powerlifters are not concerned with whether their shoulders dominate the movement as long as the weight goes up. That makes trying to compare two different activities by the same standards the DUMBEST FUCKING THING that comes up on this forum…as if bodybuilders couldn’t train to be powerlifters and do just as well.

oK where did you get the idea that “powerlifters use the shortest range of motion possible, the greatest leverage possible, for only one repitition”. Now if your talking about a Meet then yes we want to move the weight fast. But in training what we do in the gym is not 1rep 1time. That is like if I said Bodybuilders walk in front of a mirror and pose and walk out the gym.

Anyway you can’t compare the two sports like that. Only two athletes there are so many dif ways powerlifters train to get to the platform that making us all sound like we fit into one small section of the iron game is crazy.

Butt for total body power. You wont find stronger than Brazilian. They have BB’s and Powerlifters beat. Not the whole country just her.

Just her. And if she’s not the strongest .well she should be.

Ben White & Jonnie Jackson are having a bench press & deadlift competition at this years Olympia, which I think is a great idea and may even get some people to take bodybuilders more seriously (as athletes).

What do you think?[/quote]

i’m all for it

are they just hosting it or competing also? i don’t know if they’re actually in the O or not this year but if they are i don’t think it’d be a good idea to try and pull a record deadlift on the same day you haven’t even had a glass of water.

Whoa. I’m reasonably certain that he’s really an 11 year old female Chinese gymnast in disguise or something.
