UPDATE:

I think my “strained hip/groin” is actually a hernia. Going to the VA Clinic first thing in the morning to hopefully get it checked out before my Oral Interview tomorrow.

EDIT: after reading more about hernia symptoms I’m 100% certain that I have one. If I can get the surgery by next week I might be able to recover in time to make this academy but with how the VA works… I dont think the chances of that happening are all that great…[/quote]

Hope its not that serious brother. Either way, best of luck with the recovery.

OOF. sorry to hear that!!!

Still going for the interview though, right??

Sorry to hear about the possible hernia man, hope that shit gets fixed quick, fast, and in a hurry.

WF- from what I read online it’s 6-8 weeks? More than likely 8 weeks because it isn’t an umbilical hernia. I’m going to get it ASAP man cause it sucks

DF- hahaha I got that one! Thanks bud

DoveOfWar- thanks man. I appreciate it.

MiM- yeah I’m still going to the interview for sure. I’m at the VA clinic now hoping toget seen real quick

Ink- welcome back man! yeah I hope so too. Hopefully I can get this diagnosis real quick and see what’s up.

Ok so I’m at the doctors office right now waiting to be seen. I have my interview today at 1 so hopefully I will know something before then.

DISCLAIMER: POSSIBLE TMI TO FOLLOW… PROCEED WITH CAUTION LOL

ok so the hernia is very uncomfortable and pretty painful to be honest. Im having several secondary symptoms of an inaugural hernia. I am having lower quadrant abdomen pain, a slight burning sensation when I pee, very frequent urinations, dull constant pain in my right testicle leading to nausea. Obviously the testicular pain is the worst… Basically the feeling you have about 30 seconds after being kicked in the balls lol.

END TMI ZONE

So I’m waiting now and two have me in for an open 8:30 appointment (39 minutes from now) so hopefully I’ll know more then.

Hernia? Ouch. Good luck with the recovery, man.

Dude, fuck that shit. They better fix your ass right and fast, or I’m going to have to send one of my trusty .300 WSM rounds down range…

Good luck with the hernia dude!

They better get that shit fixed up so you can dominate the world of firefighting!

Tell them Steve says they need to fix you double time.

HeavyTriple- yeah man it blows. Not sure if it’s a hernia yet but whatever it is sucks

Ink- hahaha I’ll let em know!

Steve- haha thanks bud. I’ll make sure that the docs know you guys say so

UPDATE:

The doctor said it very well could be a hernia but that the only way to tell for sure is with an ultra sound. After my interview today I’ve gotta go to the La Jolla office emergency room and wait be seen cause the ultra sound appointments are booked until July 20th lol. She said my best bet is to hit the ER and then they can do a rush order thing and get me in today. It’s gonna be a long day

Ultrasound eh? Hope it’s a boy!

Sitting in the ER now waiting to be seen, as for the interview…

Update:

Got all fancy lookin with a fresh haircut, fresh shave and a clean/pressed suit. The interviews were running late so I didn’t get mine until almost 2. The interview was me and two fire fighters. They asked me to tell them about myself. Then they asked what I was doing to get to where I wanted to go. They asked me what my strengths/weaknesses are and how that relates to the fire service. They asked me an EMT question (which I totally wasn’t prepared for. I had prepped for a few different ones but not that lol) then they asked what I was doing to get ready for the academy.

I answered all of their questions and at the end they said “ok, can we speak candidly with you? It’s not part of the questionnaire.”

They said that with my military background that they have no doubts that I’ll work hard, take orders and have no problems with the physical aspect. They said that with my military background I “am over qualified” (uh oh… That’s never good) if anything. They said that with what I’ve done I’ve probably got more life experience than they do but wanted me to know that the military and the fire service are different blah blah blah. They said that a big part of the application process is different certifications (ones that I dont have)

The guy said that I was very well spoken, I presented myself well, I was very confident and that I didn’t seem nervous at all. He said if I walked in the door of his station I would be exactly the kind of new guy that he would be excited about but they weren’t sure if I was ready for the fire service hiring process (takes a long time) they asked that multiple times. “Are you ready?”

Then they looked at my PAT time and said “you ran a 3:04?” I said, yes. They asked if I had ever ran it before and I said no. The guy said “that’s a good time” and the other guy said “damn good time” so that was good. After that they said to do as many pushups as I could to conclude the interview. I took off my jacket and my tie and started pushing em out. The interviewers stopped me at 65. I could have done more (maybe 80something) but I was feeling it at that point lol.

So I’m not exactly sure what to think about the interview. On one hand I got quite a few positive remarks and on the other they said I was “over qualified” and they mentioned my lack of certifications (basically reiterating that I am just starting out the fire fighter process) so we’ll just have to see I guess. they said I would know by Friday if I made it or not.

Waiting in the ER now… If you would have talked to me last week I can say that I’m not exactly doing/feeling what I expected to be doing/feeling after my interview lol

Regarding the testicular pain - owwwwwwwwww fffuuuuuuuuu

Regarding the interview - nicely done

Aww, Greg! I’m super sorry about the hernia :frowning: I hope it turns out to be nothing serious. Hang in there!

As for the interview - you totally smoked it!! I would have hired you on the spot! Who does 65 pushups at their job interview? Gregron, that’s who. Freaking AWESOME!

DF- Yeah man its painfull some times… Thank man

Masch- hahaha yeah I did do 65 pushups lol… pretty funny. I hope I did well. A lot of the choosing is based off of a “points” system that has to do with certifications and classes completed so I’m not sure if I have enough points?

so i got done at the ER and guess what… wait for it… drumroll please… NO HERNIA!!! Woo-friggin-hoo!

I am so pumped. I guess it is just irritated/inflamed lymph nodes. They said it could be from irritation in the area (due to the groin strain from the game saturday) or it could be from my body fighting off a cold/infection (no symptoms of that but did do blood work) OR it could just be for no real reason whatsoever (<–lame!)

the nurse said that the symptoms are very similar but that I do not in fact have a hernia. GREAT NEWS! Now i just need to find out about this academy.

Went to Burger Lounge for dinner and dominated 2 Turkey burgers lol Soooooooooo good

thanks for all your kind thoughts and well wishes my fellow t-nationers. You guys are so supportive

I missed this whole hernia scare business in my period of no internet.

It’s great that it’s not a hernia man! Really glad for you. Avoiding surgery is always good lol.

Hopefully you get the job! Sounds like the interview went well.

If anything, it sounds like the lack of certifications might be the only real thing against you. If you get that taken care of, doesn’t seem like they could come up with any reason NOT to hire you. (this is in the event that they’re dumb and don’t hire you now haha).

I don’t know how long it’s been since you did a deload, but a week off or a week of going light on the primary movements couldn’t hurt as far as recovery. Just put down some glutamine, get your multi, take some fish oil, and you’ll be better in no time lol.

Dude, you need to guilt trip the shit out of them.

“I was hoping that I could serve the community after serving my country. I’m just used being on alert and this is the perfect opportunity to satisfy that instinct.”

Do I need to pull strings for you? Tell me, Ghost Face Killah!

OH I KNOW. YOU FORGOT TO PLANK DURING THE INTERVIEW. MYSTERY SOLVED.

Ponce, maybe he planked at the bottom of each pushup?

Greg, great news about the nuts, and it sounds like the intereview went as good as it could have. Over qualified, they’re just jelly. Hope they get back to you asap with the news you want to hear!

YAY! Also glad to hear your nuts are in tact =D

And congrats on your healthy lymphatic system! When do you hear back from the academy anyways?

Blaze- It was “Hernia Gate 2012” hahaha Really good news that its not (still hurts quite a bit though which sucks) Good advice on the deload. I’ve been in kind of an extended deload period lately but when i was hitting a workout it was savage lol… so I guess whats not quite a deload?

Ponce- hahahaha I didnt use that line. They both thanked me for my service and actually said “I know theres a lot of stuff that you’ve that you’re not allowed to tell us about, but we appreciate it” lol… that stuff always makes me cringe a little bit inside. Its true (lol) but I just feel so douchy when the subject comes up of “If i told you I’d have to kill you” kinda stuff hahahaha

Ink- yeah man I hope to hear back soon. I’m a firm believer in “Everything Happens For a Reason” so if I dont get in then it just wasnt my time. I had a similar situation which eventually lead to me getting out of the Navy and not breaking up with my GF at the time… that seemed to work out pretty well for both of us in the long run but I was super bummed at the time :stuck_out_tongue:

Masch- yes they are both quite intact, thank you  Yeah I guess it is a sign of a healthy lymphatic system huh? Still sucks cause it hurts. I went for a LITTLE jog yesterday (emphasis on little) cause I made it about 3 blocks before I had to come home cause it hurt too bad ha! The interviewers said I would know by friday if I made it or not. They have the rest of the interviews today (half day) and then I’m assuming they will make the list tonight/tomorrow? Im expecting an email tomorrow afternoon/evening.

here is a song that i’ve been really digging lately.

Ok so I’m glad that I dont have a hernia but this dang lymph nodes are pretty sore still. I’m going to get a light little workout in today and see what kinds of things wont bother them. Probably wont be doing anything “heavy” but I need to get a good sweat going and get some blood flowing around otherwise I might just die from boredom

I’ve been a super lazy bones jones lately about replying to all of you guys logs but I am going to get on that ASAP. Gotta get the place all cleaned up cause my boo’s mom is coming into town today and hasnt seen our new place yet. Cant have company over and have a dirty pad can I? I’ll get on those logs soon though… scouts honor

You’re still my hero Mr. Man!
