Hi guys, i’m not using steroids but this seems like the best place to ask this question regarding testosterone, wondering if you could help me out.
I’ve went to the docs twice complaining of symptoms of low testosterone and for some reason they’ve refused to check my testosterone levels but instead are checking my blood for other things that they insist will be able to tell them if there’s a problem with my testosterone levels.
I’m not convinced that the things they’re testing can give them info about low testosterone and was just wondering if you guys could give me your opinion.
They want to check-
FBC:- (Full blood count)
Glucose:- (Random test)
U&E:- (Urea and Electrolytes, salt levels kidney function ect)
Liver Profile:- (How well my liver works)
Bone Profile:- (calcium, vitamin D levels ect)
Thyroid function:- (Check metabolism level)
Would they be able to spot low testosterone levels just from the results of these basic tests?
You need to get test for teststerone, free testosterone, and estrogen. You should check in the over 35 lifters forum, the sticky at the top about estradoil has alot of info about low testosterone levels and blood work.
Sounds like BS from your doc! I don’t see why, in addition to those items he wanted to test, he could not have also requested that the lab analyse Test levels?
I have recently visited my GP as I have a number of symptoms indicating low test levels. I just told the doc the symptoms, not mentioning “low test”, and requested “blood tests” which he agreed would be a good starting point. I then added a request for the tests to include Testosterone levels, which he again agreed to.

Yeah it doesn’t really make sense to me either, if they’re able to request basic blood tests then they should be able to tell the lab to check testosterone as well.
The only things i can think of is that the specific lab the GP uses doesn’t test testosterone or maybe a testosterone test costs the GP money to get done so they flog me off with some bs excuse in order to save money.
(since the GP i see is under the national health service, ie free)
If it is just to save money though i woulda thought the NHS would cover the cost since thats what its there for.
I think what ill do now is to go for this stupid basic blood test the docs gave me for the second time just to say i had it done then go back a little while later, call the docter out on his bs and try and request a t-check again.
If he refuses ill have to buy/order one of them private DIY testosterone testing kits.

Have you checked out “The Over 35 Lifter” forum? There is a lot more info regarding TRT etc over there.
Also it may be, if you’re in the Uk, that you are probably wasting time and effort trying to get your GP to go down a TRT route as a solution to your problems?
