I will just give you this for now, watch it many times, note the slow and controlled movements in the back of the ring. Also note how the lead leg is turned sideways (helps create a lower drive/kick). When you throw you need to go up then out, this should help your block some. And look at the sky when initiating the power throw-always driving forward.
First bend over, at the waist, in the back of the ring so that you can just touch the ground with you non-throwing hand then just slow down that left leg until you kick it back low and fast. You get your feet under you well. Start there see if it helps.
Threw a 40’6" stand at my meet yesterday. Im very happy right now, and I qualified for states. My next two throw’s were shit, a 38’ stand and something like a 36’ glide (shot slipped out of my hand). But I dont care, im still happy I got 40’.
For training this week, I will take a deload on lower body but still do some upper body work.

Thank you very much. Instead of getting really spyched up like the other meets I kept my cool. I think that helped alot.
Thanks man. Its a really fun lift, as soon as I got my bands last year I tried it out and loved it. It feels pretty good on my shoulders, especially with higher reps. Not sure if you have bands or not, but you should definitly try it out!

Good job! Now don’t try to do it again but do it again and again, if that makes sense.

Do you pretense/stretch reflex your power throws?
Do you mean go down into my stance and snap back up to take advantage of the stretch reflex? If so, then no. I usually lean down, pause for a second and then come back up.

In place of the pause, if you do a “calf raise” with your foot that is back and then let it drop back down then do your power throw you get a little stretch reflex in your power throw. This doesn’t really do anything for a full throw, but for the power throw it does.

Alk: Thanks dude. I can relate, I didnt even know what shotput was until last year. Nice job on your maxes btw, when you startin your log back up?
I have a log over at Sherdog.
I hate the fact that I have to wait 10 minute until I see my post. A lot of strong mothers over there. Also this site doesn’t have a lot of traffic as when I need some help (other than you, Mrodock and Modi) it’s hard to get a response in that same day.

Fair enough. I might have to make an account over there.
If you do let me know. My account name is ObsceneJester.
There is a running contest over there and honestly it isn’t as heavily moderated as here. Oh and if that doesn’t persuade you, Diesel Weasel is back and in the contest too.
Go down to the S&P (Strength and Power) and that’s where I am. There off topic is quite fucking funny, as a lot of T-Nation people seem to copy what they read from over there… to over here
