I should probably check out that thread. I do LIKE the 5/3/1 system for main lift I’m doing now, but for the most part I’m splitting my week up a little more so I’m always in 5-6 days instead of 4 (even if two days are just abs, extra calves, traps, whatever). I loose focus when I try and fit too much in one session.

yeah this might be good for you, you progress the weights similar to 5/3/1 but you do the 70/80/90 for 2-4 weeks each and you do it for 5-7 sets instead of just one so you get a lot more used to the weights. When I did deadlifts like that the weight felt lighter the more sets i did!

for the bodybuilding you do a decent amount of volume and use straight sets for the most part which seems to be a very fun way of training

Sounds kinda fun. Quite like ramping tho ! No idea what I’d try after the 5/3/1 template, I’ll probably stick with a variation of it until I hit a few strength goals (275 bench, 350+ squat, 485/500 dead) unless I start really stagnating for no reason.

yeah the good thing about 5/3/1 is you dont stagnate too much on it its probably the best thing for constant progression, Im just a volume fiend

Since I definitely will only get heavier again now, I’m hoping to progress for some time under its basic template. I probably do 3x as much volume as Wendler with assistance work though… ha

I was talking about this with Hiss and yeah i think adding more volume is a good thing. It seems powerlifters at my gym, the ones who dont train every muscle to be strong, just main lifts are injured constantly. I know of one with a bad shoulder he injured recently and another guys whos powerlifted and strongman`d for a while and i know hes pulled almost everything and tore quads, chest, biceps etc.

I dont think its that their using crazy weights because they use near the same as me and I never get hurt, but i also train way different then them too. I go heavy or try to on every single movement, so i think because of that it makes me a little more durable? Idk its just a theory lol. I have a bodybuilder friend and he seems to tear something every time he goes heavy because he trains light all the time. I just believe that the more heavy things you do on all muscles the better off youl be.

Just want to say if you dont have mad titan on your facebook or like his lifts life page i recomend you do so he just wrote an awesome chest article, the guy knows his stuff

@blackagger: as you know powerlifters dont generally train for front to back balance, just whatever directly improves lifts, so if whole bodyparts are missed over a long period of time eventually they become the weak link in my opinion. To counter this I think most successful powerlifers value working every bodypart hard in some way, even if its with 1/4 the volume of my bodybuilders. But then, who really knows, because olympic lifters do just fine with about 6 lifts.

Also, madtitan/kelechi is amazing. Such a good addition to my facebook!

Yeah thats more or less what i was trying to say but said it bettter lol. And yeah hes a good guy and really nice too if you talk to him

its 70% of squat max for 7 sets today, time for some blood forced trauma!

You’re diet is full of delicious win haha. Strong stuff too. What are you’re best lifts? I probably should know via the BOI but it’s kind of hard to keep up with errthang. :stuck_out_tongue:

haha believe it or not my diet has changed, i watched a few disturbing shows on what the pigs cows go through that get sold to comercial large chains and im not eating that stuff anymore. Same with the eggs so my diet now is basically all organic. Free range eggs, im picking up some grass fead beef and venison today and also changing white bread to ezekiel bread etc

My best lifts are
Bench: 405
Deadlift:585
Squat: 505

Thats gonna cost a bit extra. Wish i had the money to eat like that

It’s not as bad as you may think.

One day for me:
6-8 large free range organic eggs
500grams grass fed ground beef

That’s what the majority of my budget goes on and it works out <$8 a day in american. Carbs are cheap. Good fats ie. coconut oil, mac nut, evvo aren’t cheap (here) but they are decent considering price per calorie.

Yeah, I’ve heard about crappy conditions for commercial animals too. Kind of sucks that you have to pay more for the really good stuff.

Nice lifts as well man.

It wasnt a bad article. But i will say this, it always bugs the hell out of me when there are a shit load of typos and grammatically incorrect sentences in a article that is suppose to educate you. -.-

I like how he broke down everything but still, i think there is a reason why people like Ronnie Coleman and Arnold Swartzehrnuugerrfruggensteinager still trained BB flat bench often.

I just got 2lbs of venison and 2lbs of beef, 6 bucks a lb for the beef and closer to 7 for the venison but its expensive normally. Surprisingly thats only a little more then a dollar each for non organic around here so its not bad. the free range eggs are about 2 bucks more every dozen and the fats are expensive everywhere and they last a decent amount of time, i picked up virign coco and organic almond. Im the type of person where I have to go all in or not at all lol. Im gonna eat like this 6 days a week, probably saturdays ill take off since its the day ill be training legs on from now on and I could use some more dirtier cals that day alone. Since christmas is happennin and things are close im going to start my new eating regime monday, im pretty excited lol.

Legs today, strength was there today
Back squats
135x5
225x5
315x5

Yeah man it bugs me too, I had no idea about the 85% thing though, thats mostly what i took home from the article. I also wish he stressed finding what exercises work best for an individual, he just suggested all the chest exercises he uses which is ok, but come on who does guilotine press? lol.

Also the counting your sets properly was good too, lots of people including myself counted what are more or less warm ups if your ramping as sets then only doing 1 all out or not so all out set per exercise. So for chest when I should of been doing 12-16 sets i was doing more like 5… lol.

Yeah thankfully my moms paying for it while im on my placement the next couple months haha but i will have to buy it soon enough myself and its not cheap especially when im bulking again… o god… then when i get married and have to buy food for someone else too… expensive! What im going to do is just not go out for dinner much and if i do itl be 1x a week. fast food adds up like nuts especially if your like me and eat it multiple time a week sometimes twice a day.

after my cut when im gaining again itl be quite a bit slower so hopefully not as much cals, I want to keep my abs when i get em. Ill just give an example bulking day that would work for a lot of people Im sure and wouldnt cost too much

6 free range whole eggs cooked in virgin coconut oil
4 slices ezekiel toast with 2 tbsp organic full fruit jam
950 calories

2 scoops whey protein
1 cup oats
2 tbsp organic almond butter
780 calories

8 oz ground grass fed beef cooked in virgin coconut oil
1 cup cooked basmati rice
vegetables
900 calories

8oz ground grass fed Venison cooked in virgin coconut oil
1 cup cooked basmati rice
vegetables
750 calories

2 scoops whey protein
2 slices ezekiel toast with 2 tbsp organic almond butter
1 organic apple
660 calories

4040 calories and absolutely a beast in nutrients

you would need
80 bucks for the week in meat, it would be better to probly just buy in bulk
almond butter- probably a 6 dollar jar would last 2 weeks
VCO - a 15 dollar jar would last 2-3 weeks
rice/oats - cheap as hell and lasts a while
Full fruit jam- 5 bucks would last a month and u dont even need it
eggs would cost around - 40 bucks a week

so amonthly budget for food would be around 600 a month or 150 a week

so with a significant other that would cost around 200 a week 800 a month, 10 000 a year

however the average couple spends around 100 on groceries, orders food in 1ce a week and goes out to eat once a week.

so that would approximately equate to 170 a week, 680 a month, 8200 a year.

its really a personal decision to see if its worth it, if i got a sponsor thatd be awesome…

I would honestly probably do all organic if i was dieting and then when im not which is most of the time I wouldnt and itd be considerably cheaper

a way to cut the price ridiculously also is to cut the meat servings in half so 4oz instead of 8 and have it with a scoop of whey that would reduce the total by like 1500 bucks lol

I definitely don’t spend more then $100 a week on food and supps and can hit my macros. Easy to increase calories through more rice/fats… its only meat and eggs that are the cost so it’s just a case of as much as you can afford/be bothered to consume. I would never spend big on veg/fruit though… unless I was dieting for a contest or something.
