A workout log covering Martial Arts and general training/health strategies. I’m restarting my written/online training logs from my old MartialArtsPlanet forum thread. Any advice or suggestions are appreciated.
Comments: The run was a light recovery pace, low in intensity and with a steady pace but fair elevation gain. Resistance training was again light in intensity with a focus on weaker areas. Resistance training RPE felt about 5/10.
Comments: I’ve been busy at work with a strong feeling of DOMS all day from my own workouts and those from teaching classes at work recently. I’m going to aim for better recovery tomorrow. I’ve recently bought a finger prick home blood test but couldn’t draw anywhere near the amount of blood needed with their lancets; even through following their instructions. I wouldn’t recommend a finger prick test unless you’re on blood thinners/aspirin or bleed very easy. I’ll ring the company tomorrow if I can do it another way so I’ve not wasted my money.
Comments: I’ve upgraded to a nurse visit based venous blood test to check all my levels. I’m currently trying to arrange a date to sort this sometime in January.
Comments: Today was an early start at work so I didn’t get much sleep. Diet was poor last night but energy levels have been good today. The DOMS from a few days back has improved so I’m pleased I listened to my body and gave it time to rest.
Comments: I managed to sort a date for that blood test for hormones/lipids with the nurse for early next year. Today was my last day at work before I’m off on leave for a week over Christmas and New Year. I would have kept a gap of a few days between weight training sessions but couldn’t due to time/opening hours etc. I just taught one class today which involved weight training, using high reps and low weight.
Comments: I kept my training quite light today, practising some Karate that I need for my next grading and going for a run with my dog. Another jogger was coincidentally running with me pace for pace (who Nero at one point took some delight in trying to greet and running in front of him) notwithstanding Nero’s toilet stops which created some space. The wind and rain was strong today and I wanted to get back early to spend time with my GF so I kept this run to 2 miles only.
Comments: Diet has been poor across 24th/25th/26th with the food and drink of Christmas but I’ve had a really great time being off work. I’ve tried to fit exercise in when I can which I’m happy with in that I’ve kept the momentum/discipline going.
Comments: Another poor day of dieting on 27th which made it 4 in a row. Enjoyed some TRX/Suspension work before Karate training and then I met up with a friend in a local pub/restaurant for some drinks and food.
28th December went better and I broke the chain of poor dieting. I went for a run with my dog across the local cycle path and then spent some time practising weaker areas for my next Karate grading. Quite a bit of time was spent working on Pinan Shodan in my current style which is taught differently to how I’ve learned it in the past with my previous Instructor.
Comments: Again I’ve been quite busy with social things, diet poor and just trying to fit training in where I can.
Comments: I’ve not been feeling great these past few days so the training today was relatively light with my motivation not surprisingly quite low. I’m hoping to improve my diet and my quality of technique into the New Year 2023. I’m planning to grade again around Mid January. I hope you have a happy and healthy New Year to anybody reading this training log.
Comments:
Recovering from COVID has been quicker this time than last time and my main problem now is an ankle injury. Diet has been good since 1st January/New Years day. Didn’t do any kicks or stance work and kept my walk light but still trying to do what I can.
