BJ vs KenFlo / Anderson Silva vs Forrest Griffin

OK, after the travesty of my picks on 100. hangs head in shame

Hopefully I can redeem myself on 101.

I’ll put them down in a bit but feel free anyone else who wants to start breaking them down.

I want a couple of days to recover from how bad my 100 picks were before comitting anything.

I will start off by saying I think Kenflo wins. He is one of my favourite fighters and the progress he has made in terms of technique over the last couple of years has been fantastic to watch.

I do however want to see Sanchez continue to do well because I have so much respect for Saulo and the way that he teaches.

OK I’ve licked my wounds from my previous picks beatdown.

So here we go

Lightweight Championship bout: Kenny Florian

  • If you have to ask why I’d take him over BJ . . . HI you must be new here

Light Heavyweight bout: Anderson Silva

  • honestly does anyone think Silva won’t win.

Welterweight bout: Amir Sadollah
even though he ruined my TUF pool, I admit the boy has heart, and that can get you through in the beginning.

Middleweight bout: Ricardo Almeida

  • gut feeling, meaning I don’t like Grove.

Lightweight bout: Josh Neer

  • I think he’s evolving his style

Preliminary card
Lightweight bout: Aaron Riley

  • giving the nod to experience

Welterweight bout: Tamdan McCrory

  • any one who references Metalocalypse is my friend : )

Middleweight bout: Thales Leites

  • he will redeem himself

Welterweight bout: Matt Riddle

  • boy hit’s a ton

Welterweight bout: Danillo Villefort

  • flipped a coin.

anyone else?

^^^ Oh good, after your UFC 100 picks I was worried you might pick BJ and curse him. Thanks.

Yikes, swiss balls and wobble boards it is then…

hey guys.I just joined the site.I’m Jon chaimberg owner of adrenalineperformancecenter…and I can assure you there will be no more swiss ball bullsh**

Kenny has been here twice, and will come back again and myself and georges will go there to help later on…He’s seen huge improvements already, and am so impressed at where he’s come from since he started the program a month ago…

BJ at sportslab will just be working on his strengths…flexability, and balance…he’ll stay in his comfort zone.I promise you ,you will see the most powerful, athletic kenflo to date

pleasure to be on this board,…i’ll drop by whenever I can

Drop by more… won’t you please!

hmmm…who i think will win and who i want to win is very different on this card.

i think BJ and Sliva will win, although i really like Florian’s combo of MT and BJJ. it’s also cool to see a guy bust his ass and really improve and evolve. i think Silva’s boring anymore, but i really can’t see Griffin finishing him anywhere.

i don’t think the Stevenson that Florian fought was a very good test…Diego said it best, when he said that Stevenson’s always been a decent boxer and wrestler-he just hasn’t evolved at all. in his last fight i thought he looked a lot better, though.

i think Villefort will win…his BJJ is good, and he’s surprisingly powerful.

i’m going with Cramer over Riddle…i think he is a lot more well-rounded, although both are young and kind of raw yet.

also, i think Almeida will take Grove, but haven’t really seen either one fight recently,a nd have never been all that impressed with Grove. i think his main advantage is being 6 inches taller than everyone else…

The gsp fight made me wonder if his training is up to par with other top fighters at this point. He seemed completely unprepared for the strength difference in his last fight. It didnt look like he was any stronger at 170 than he was at 155.[/quote]

BJ’s training prep for the fight showed him doing work set squats of 135 measly lbs, while GSP was doing pull-ups with a 90 lb DB added. Even if BJ’s training were modified to gain some strength advantage going up to 170, there’s no way a few months, or even a year, would be enough for him to catch up with GSP’s strength.

Griffin in round 3. Bet on it. Anderson is going DOWN!

well . . . ouch.

Gotta go with BJ. Aloha motherfuckers

OK I’ll admit it. Saw the Countdown. BJ looks good, and I’m worried for KenFlo.

But I’m sticking with my picks.

and rizza, love the avatar

Yea dude I just saw the countdown last night. At first I was like, ‘is this a replay of the GSP countdown?’

Then I see BJ ACTUALLY TRAINING, striated pecs, looking like a fighter. I kind of sensed a little trepidation in Kenny’s voice. Like he was giving BJ too much credit. It will be a war!

thanks on the avatar comment. CroCop’s back in the UFC, you hear that?

first I’ll say this,Kenny is an awsome fighter, and has come a long way…but as long as B.J. is alive and still fighting, Kenny will always be #2 or #3,only behind B.J.,and it’s a toss up,Diego #2,and Kenny #3…or vice-versa…evryone needs to realize,Kenny doesn’t have enough power to hurt B.J.,and the only fights,he has ever gassed out in we’re against hughes and GSP(2 of the strongest guys in the sport at 170)…B.J. will win this fight in dominant fashion.as for Kenny training with GSP,and GSP having set the blueprint to beat B.J.,sorry but there is no truth in that at all…GSP is probably the strongest and most skilled wrestler in MMA…and that’s how he beat B.J.,Power!!

Kenny, not on his best day will be able to take B.J. down, and number two,B.J.'s jits is in a catagory all by it’s self, many levels above anyone at 155…if Kenny decides to take it to the ground, he will be submitted rather quickly, his best bet is to keep it standing and hope he doesn’t get knocked out. not trying to offend anyone, but this sport makes me alot of money, and there’s four people you never bet against,Randy,B.J.,GSP,and Anderson Silva…

gotta go with BJ as long as his training with that wacko Marinovich gets him in quality shape. In my opinon he was not in near top notch shape against GSP, not that it would have mattered if he was anyway. Kenny is super confident but i just dont think it will be enough to take down a determined and in shape BJ.

As far as Forrest/Spider goes I think Forrest has a good chance to land a few shots and really hurt the Spider but i have funny feeling that forrest may get a bit overzealous and get caught by an incredible counter puncher in spider. We’ll see though.

also once again, if any one is wondering what Marinovich’s training principles are look up the book ProBodX.

From what I saw in the countdown highlights the equipment and philosophies haven’t changed much since he put out the book. I admit it’s an interesting read.

I picked up marv’s book ProBodx - its good. In the book he recommends doing sprints/intervals instead of slow distance training. He talks about the importance of diet, why you should train without shoes, its more important to move light objects as fast as you can, treat the body as one, and the two items I find the most important having a balance between muscles in your body(ex. don’t get one body part to strong) and finding your weakness and making it strong.

I did the majority of his workout - did not have the wobble boards. What I noticed is that his program for me was really a mobility and balancing workout. Basically I believe these exercises help recuperate the body and allow the body to move the way it should. It is not going to get you strong but will prevent you from getting injured. My body does feel rejuvenated but I am also smaller and less strong. I feel that I move better, not sure how to explain it.

Marv takes the whole body approach - diet, rest, and exercise to build his athletes. He was definitely ahead of his time, probably by two decades. Only in the past years have I read that interval training is better than long distance running for speed and fat loss, the importance of mobility, importance of diet(you can’t outwork a bad diet), not overexerting yourself(overtraining), and knowing the reason why you are doing exercises. He has been preaching this for the past 3 decades. I believe that the T-Nation author that closely resembles Marinovich’s training program is Mike Boyle.

hey anyone see the pics from the press conference? the one of silva/Forrest is pretty funny, Forrest with his usual goofy ass grin and silva with his designer glasses on haha.

For the record, going decision for Forrest (fanboy here haha. im gonna be sweating this one out) and BJ by sub round 3. Looking for Griffin to pull the upset by starting fast and stealing round 1 by using his jab than trying to take one more with a takedown and lay n pray. should be a good night of fights

BJ is looking to be in the best shape of his life. Who is gonna watch the weigh ins?

Some people were mentioning(mostly on other sites) how Forrest is a bigger 205 than Anderson. Well from the press conference pics…I think that is a stretch. Silva is not as small as people make him out to be. Long-limbed? Yes. Small? Not so.

But we shall see come weigh-in time…and when they touch gloves.

I think you have to look at how much weight they have to cut, not size at the weigh-ins. Forrest looked really dried out. Silva didn’t look like he had cut much weight.

Talking about being dried out, how about Matt Riddle? Wonder how much wt. he cut?
