Bitten by the Lifting Bug

Wow! Great DLs! Are you pulling in Oly shoes?

I’m always so impressed by how much weight you move.[/quote]

Hey hey, Snap!
Thanks so much - and yes, those are my super cool Pendlay Do-Wins! Fisch had been um…“strongly encouraging” us to get some actual lifting shoes and we (Meg and I) finally did in late fall. I was using them for squats and continued to use my Chucks for DLs, but then he said to try it out and see on the DLs; weird at first but feels good now, so I’ve been going with it.

Haven’t had time to catch up on everyone’s logs yet, so I’m looking forward to seeing what you’ve been up to (and how your hip has been, etc).

Thanks, PG!!

Nice easy recovery day today after a brutal bootcamp last night.

The foam and rumble rollers are my friends!

1/18/13 - Week 6, Day 3

Russian overheads (warmup): 7.5 x 5 x 3

bench:
bar/75 x 4 x 1
90 x 2 x 6 sets

jumps (jump off bench, then jump up 3x…just getting legs activated before squats): 3 x 3

squats:
bar/95/115 x 3 x 1
135 x 2 x 1
155 x 4 x 4 - BIG day for me! I’ve hit 155 before but for a grinder of a single rep. This was huge. Very happy!

Awesome job Jean!

1/21/13 - Week 7, Day 1 (Monday’s training that I didn’t log 'til now)

Russian overheads to warm up:
7.5 x 5 x 3

bench
bar/75 x 3 x 1
110 x 3 x 3 - PR! 3rd rep of first set was a grinder; seemed like an eternity that I held it in one spot. Spotter lightly touched the bar and that’s when I pushed past the sticking point. We laughed that it was like I saw her hands coming to rack the bar and mentally said, “Hell no!” 3rd set was nice and strong!!

jumps
3x3

squats
bar/95/115 x 3 x 1
135 x 2 x 6 sets

1/23/13 - Week 7, day 2

deadlifts
135 x 3 x 1
165 x 2 x 1
185 x 2 x 1
205 x 2 x 1
220 x 3 x 3 - PR!!! I’ve come a long way! Very first rep and very last rep of the 9 overall weren’t as smooth as I would have liked, but they were still good. Thanks, Coach Fischer!

t-handle swings
35 x 10 x 3

Will get abs in at bootcamp tonight.

bodyweight ~ 120#

Thanks, Coach! Just sticking to the program. Feeling strong and having a blast!!!

Forgot to mention…did regular KB session last night and used wider (sumo) stance for some of the sets of swings and even swing peaks. It made my hammies wake up for sure!

1/25/13 - Week 7, Day 3

squats
bar x 3 x 1
95 x 3 x 1
115 x 3 x 1
130 x 2 x 1
145 x 2 x 1
160 x 3 x 4 sets - Was supposed to be 3x3 today, but I screwed up the second set in that the 2nd rep was high, then I lost confidence and was high on 3rd rep as well (that’s what I get for letting distractions get to me). Not good enough for me, so I added on the additional set. Set 3 was good, and I nailed set 4, nice and deep.

Russian overheads
7.5 x 5 x 3

bench
bar/75 x 4 x 1
90 x 2 x 6 sets

Week 7 successfully completed. Onward and upward…

Rock and Roll!!!

You are a machine!

Solid as a rock, nice work.

Nice work in here! Your a Power House!

Thanks for the kind words Fisch, Jack, and CoyoteGal!!

Ok, today (1/28/13) was Week 8, Day 1, and here’s what I did:
Warmup: Russian overheads
7.5 x 5 x 3

bench
75/95/105 x 3 x 1
115 x 2 x 2
115 x 1 x 1: Rick suggested I try another set or two after I did the planned 2x2 above. I got one more rep out @ 115 and called it good. (For comparison, in mid-November 2012, I did 115 x 3 x 1, and that was the most I’d ever done at this weight. Happy with today’s work.)

jumps
3x3

squats
bar/95/115 x 3 x 1
135 x 2 x 6sets

You looked solid on all the lifts, like a Rockstar!!!

May the sight and scent of the cherry blossoms bring you inner peace and tranquility.

Arigato gozaimasu, Sensei!

1/30/13 - Week 8, day 2
deadlifts
135 x 3 x 1
165 x 2 x 1
195 x 1 x 2
230 x 0 - Got it several inches off the floor and just hung there…
230 x 1 x 1
230 x 1 x 1

Was supposed to be 230 x 2 x 2 today. Only managed a couple of singles. This weight was my 1RM before starting the program. Head just not in it today, so I have to be happy with it for now. Will maybe go light on deads next week, then week after, re-attempt this one. We’ll see.

Bah!

No worries here, you just need a little break. The lifts that you made were strong and fast.

I see people trip over nothing even saw Michael Jordan miss a free throw or I heard that Babe Ruth used to strike out once in awhile…
