Being a fucking pussy when i started and actually giving a shit about doing exactly ‘3x5’ on some exercise or worrying abou when exactly i should be reaching failure and just overall being too focussed on following what some author says.
-terrible college style nutrition
-Changing my programs too frequently to see what was working or not
Literally pulling a “Forrest Gump” on running & cardio (I mean as in stopping running cold turkey one day) & focusing on lifting heavy shit almost exclusively for the past few years.
Got huge but now can’t really run for shit. Have to get back into it.
As much as I hate it I know I’ll need the cardio for my health

There’s nothing wrong with cardio…but running?
It isn’t like the choices are “running” or “no cardio at all”.
Spent about 8 years in weight-lifting purgatory. Tried to get big by lifting the same weights day in and day out(mostly mirror muscles), and not eating enough.
Oh yeah, running 5 miles a day thinking that will get me a 6 pack. I don’t think I ever looked worse in pics from then…the whole skinny fat look.
Good point but at the time it was what I did for cardio. Steppers & elliptical machines are only good if some beautiful woman is in front of your machine or beside yours lol
Maybe time to get back into the rower or outside
I only do hill running for my cardio.
My calves have never seen faster improvements than hill running + direct calf work.

Shit, that sounded like me back then…

I did that on my last bulk I went from 185 to 210 on a dirty bulk. Wanted to hit 220 but couldn’t do it. So I completly cut out my cardio to do it…
The bad thing was my jobs invole running. Even interval training was killer… It took forever to get a reasonable level of running back. I will never cut my cardio out completly again.
Training routine ADD.
Not eating enough even though I thought I was “eating like a horse”
Missing a 500 lb deadlift right below the kneecaps, getting pissed off, putting 405 on the bar just cuz I “wanted to lift something heavy”, using crappy form and tearing my hamstring…should’ve called it a day after the miss.
Worrying too much about looks, not strength.
I could go on for days it seems…most were newb mistakes, but I’m better for having made them I feel.
injuring my back(all better now)
injuring my shoulder, although i was asking for the back injury, whilst the shoulder injury sort of came out of a left feild
-blowing out both rotator cuffs doing cybergenics rediculous superset/negative/dropset routine.
-extreme cuts
-excessive bulks
-wasting so much money and time on supplements/and or workouts of the month rather then diet. “I’m only eating 1700 cals a day but this pyruvate/Yomhimbine/DHEA/RIBOSE stack is gonna make me huge and ripped!”
Doesn’t seem too much different than others:
Eating everything in sight during my first bulk in HS. Gained too much fat at the expense of just wanting strength and weight to go up.
Front squatting 225 for reps when I hadn’t lifted legs for two weeks and my previous weight ever handled on that exercise was about 185. Pushing through nagging injuries and turning them into 2 months off from the gym. The two kind of go together.
Being fearful of carbs after that bulk in HS and not eating enough overall at the same time. Upped the cals by about 1000 - 2000 per day and I’ve gained weight and gotten leaner.
Being an arm bencher and not retracting the shoulder blades the first 5 - 7 years of working out (did some damage to my shoulders and my chest looked like shit, only the past year am I reversing the damage and seeing the results).
Overall, I feel the “mistakes” have given me the knowledge to know what works for my body. Being at a young age, I don’t really regret any of it.
OP this was a good thread to start.
My biggest mistake like many other guys was not deadlifting until I got into my late 20’s, then being scared of them after I had my knee rebuilt.
My mistakes are not knowing what my body can handle, the fact that no matter how hard I trained concentration exercises the “Big Three” are where the gains are noted, and the fact that I was being a capitol ‘P’ and not squatting because I knew some girl out there was squatting shit-tons more than myself.
What I’ve learned:
EAT, train, recover, EAT, EAT, EAT!
Oh yeah, stretching…that’s a real big one!
Years and years and years ago I used to run alot and I thought that was enough work for my legs. Never did squats, deads, etc…Now I live by them.
