First off, my apologies to personal trainers on this site that really know their stuff, but 2 trainers got major disrespected on the TV show “America’s Biggest Loser”. I don’t normally watch this trash, but my wife had it on and I watched a bit.
For those not familiar, the show splits 2 groups of morbidly obese individuals into teams and assigns each team a personal trainer. The teams live at a spa, workout and diet with the trainer with each person trying to lose the highest % of their original weight over a period of several months.
This time the show had a different twist as after the group had been working out for a few months, they brought back several people who did not get picked to live at the ranch, but started working out and dieting on their own. LOL, the 2 people they brought back from home had lost a higher % of weight that any of the people working with the clowns they had for trainers.
I finally had to walk away from the TV when they showed the trainers groveling with the people that came from home, telling them how much they needed the trainers.
Well, if you had continued watching, you would have seen that the men from the ranch working out with a trainer where stronger and in “better shape” than the guy who was doing it on his own at home.
You see, the guy who lost weight on his own did cardio only and no strength training…
Anyway, I think that the male trainer from the show is the biggest tool, but his trainees were stronger and more physically fit than the guy who did it on his own.
I realize these people are obese, but some of their weekly weight loss numbers are just ridiculous. I’ve only caught two shows so maybe this isn’t normal, but last night some guy lost 20lbs in one week??? I can MAYBE see that being the case the first week, but these people have been training for months. I just don’t see it.

I think the number given each week is the total weight loss since the beginning of the show, not the week to week loss. Not sure, but that would make a lot more sense
My wife and I watch the show. Usually the first few weeks everbody loses 10-15 pounds per week and then it trails off to more like 4-9 every week depending on how big the person is. The fatass that lost 20 pounds this week had intentionally inflated his weight in the prior week’s weigh in because he was guarrenteed not to be eliminated that week. He basically overhydrated himself before getting on the scale, “gained” 4 pounds and then pissed it all out before the weigh in.
yes, it’s week to week and the biggest guy lost 20 pounds in one week.
As far as needing the trainers, the people at home are very weak. The people with the trainers I am sure have gained muscle every week (it’s not fair to compare just the weight loss).
Also, the folks with the trainers have so many more tools to use when things slow down. The little whiner (I forget her name), will soon slow down and not know what to do because she is so afraid to try something new. The need for variety should be nothing new to this site.
btw, it’s ok if you like the show…no need to blame the wife
Here u got a bunch of fatties who have let themselves get into such a bad shape that they can barely move.
They go on a reality show and lose weight and suddenly they are hero’s.
If the fat fucks didnt let themselves get so obese in the first place and remained average weight then thats more of a accomplishment in my opinion.

I’ll watch it sometimes for the entertainment value. I don’t think it’s a bad show though, really. It shows that no matter how far gone you are you can turn it around.
I have watched 2 seasons. I will never bitch & moan about someone fixing a very errant issue in their life. It shows morbidly obese people they don’t have to stay that way and don’t need surgery to either. The guy who lost 20 pound took a break in the previous week and gained 4 pounds. This exact thing happened in last season a guy gained around 7 pounds and broke from training for a week but had a huge loss the next week. It just is an example of taking a break after a few weeks because of metabolic conditioning.
Peoples losses range from a couple of pounds to low double digits. By the end of the shows people lose nearly 100 lbs. If it wasn’t doing something good I would feel less supportive of it.

They do train 20 hours a week and many of the guys were well over 300 so it is possible.
I was a big watcher of this show but I tuned out this season. I still love to watch those D list celebs lose weight on VH1.

So you’re perfect in every way and have no flaws?[/quote]
His point was that they aren’t heroic, they’re doing the bare minimum to look like normal human beings.
It’s like when people talk about someone’s “heroic” battle with cancer. I’m sorry if this offends anyone, but wanting to stay alive is not heroic. It’s the bare minimum of living. It’s the absolute lowest standard you can hold someone to.

Don’t know how many cancer patients you know. Some fight it tooth and nail and some give in.
