* Deadlifts tone and strengthen glutes and hamstrings, says Jillian. Stand up tall with dumbbells or barbells in both hands, then slowly bend forward at the waist until torso is parallel to the floor. Don't forget to keep a slight bend in your knees through the entire movement. Lift back up. Too easy? Try deadlifts on one leg, then alternate.
I wonder how many overweight people with bad backs just injured themselves because of this description. The bar was nowhere near her shins either.
yea i watched that too. In one of the previous episodes a few weeks ago she said she could predict how much weight a person could lose like it was just something you can be definite about. I lol’ed.
Yea like every episode is a marketting opportunity to encourage fat people to buy their products…its ridiculous. I think the male trainer might seriously use the shit though cuz hes like 175 lol
I watched one where Bob took the dudes hiking and told a contestant to just hike through the pain…
that could have just messed his knee up enough for surgery.
check out Bob’s freak out which garnered some negative reviews.
I think the show is not addressing the core of what an active lifestyle is. in other words, it blows.

wow, she said she was giving the best she had, but i didn’t see any sweat nor did i see any significant breathing on her part. Yeah Bob for ripping her a new one!
I’m always torn on this show. In one way, it shows that a person can lose a massive amount of weight, and that someone who is 400+lbs CAN exercise, and not just by lifting wrist weights three times a day.
On the other hand, they show people being told to just ‘push through the pain’, which is okay if the person knows which pain is good pain and which pain is bad pain. Most people don’t know that.
The old dude in the last episode, don’t remember his name, he’s on the purple team–his back cracked loudly while he was doing dips, he was in obvious pain, and Bob barely seemed to care. He was more like, “you’re leaving?”
The man could have initiated the beginning of a bad back injury, but Bob just chants his magical ‘work through the pain’ like that will make everything better. The workout was so important that the guy couldn’t lay down for an hour and then take a hot shower and see if that made it better?
I don’t know. I’m waiting for someone to drop dead on the show. With 450lbs + WORK THROUGH THE PAIN = it’s bound to happen.

This is something that I always found irritating. It isn’t specific to this show though. Who ever said that trying one’s hardest is good enough? Many people give it everything they have and still fall far short of the mark. That’s just life. That goes right a long with kids getting trophies for stuff just for showing up.

Seriously, bend at the waist? Jeeeeesus…
You deadlift without bending at the waist?
bend at the hips[/quote]
Ah ok, I was confused because if someone told me to bend at the waist I would assume they meant using a straight back implying to really bend at the hips.
