I have an honest question and theory concerning bodyfat%. I have noticed that when I try to add muscle mass, I end up adding fat also. Even though I eat better and better control my calories, my gut ends up fat. When I don’t work out for an extended period of time, and lose muscle, my stomach also shrinks. Even though I eat worse (more calories and poor food choices) and do nothing to have burned this weight off.
Anyone else experience this? It’s like my body is trying to keep the same BF%. As my muscle goes up, so does a proprotianate amount of body fat. And vice versa, when I lose muscle. I did try to lean down after gaining, but did not have much luck.
The first question in my mind is about your diet. You aren’t quite as careful about keeping track of what you eat when you’re not lifting. If that’s the case, you might not be eating as many calories as you think you are.
We have a way of convincing ourselves of things we want to believe instead of what is actually happening. Without accurate records, no one has any way of knowing the truth.
Yeah it’s true that I did not count my cal’s when not lifting. It just seemed as if I ate out alot and ate a lot of crap. I will keep track this time and see what the numbers are. I have a digital scale and will go back to really accounting for all cal’s just to see.
