Pretty sure you promised to name your new log in da gadda da vida
In da gadda da vida hun nah donchnodahaluhauuuuuu
hey new log
sorry about the dog, yay for good training
yay i found you! i did an oly lifting comp a while back (fairly informal club comp). in a way… i kind of didn’t want to do it. most of my training was technique rather than maxes… i didn’t feel ready… but i did it anyway and learned some things that will be useful for when i do another one later more for reals. maybe you could view this comp similarly?
i mean… try and do some training for it as best you can but then when you do the comp you will have a much better idea of what the demands are so you can train more specifically for them if you enjoy it enough to do another one. i’ve heard the strongman community is really friendly because there aren’t that many people who do it… people really will be cheering you on that you are there and doing it rather than thinking negatively that you haven’t been focused solely on strongman training since you were 4.
sorry to hear about the dog ![]()
hubbie home soon, yay. might he be interested in strongman?? i don’t know if you guys train together sometimes or what…
So many good things over here! No smoking since Feb! That is AWESOME. And you did it at such a stressful time! Yay for hubbie coming home, and some quality family time this summer. And maybe just try another gym. The environment might be a lot more Mims-friendly.
I had to give up our dog last year. It was really sad for everybody. He was 4 and we’d raised him from a puppy, but he developed a marking behavior that we couldn’t get rid of. He was a very dominant dog, and he started “marking” in the house. It happened after we dog sat for a neighbor for a couple of months, while she was out of the country. I think he had to establish his territory, with the other dog in our house. Anyway, he would pee on each of my kid’s beds! It was like he was telling them that he was TOP DOG. Then I had to keep him tied to my belt loop, or in a crate all the time. He lifted his leg on my furniture, curtains. It just became a dog nightmare. If I put him in the yard, he would bark his head off at every bird or squirrel and I didn’t want to make my neighbors hate us. He went back to the breeder to find a new family that could keep him outside.
Next time, I’d get a female.
HAHAH! Rock! That’s an awesome log name.
MiM, you’re nuts. How do you jump from one thing to another - its beyond me ![]()
I like your log title! But i like Betty and the Barbell too, mostly because it is porny. Lol!
Yeah, Ink makes a good point about the comp - and maybe you can take the entire fam to Wildwood amusement park! That’s in NJ! Or as I call it Wally World. And yeah, what about the hubby?! Would he do it with you?
Yeah, it sounds like you’re over being a trainer. You don’t have to like being a trainer btw. You like being an athlete, if you want to work in the industry you can find other things to do with it. Or just keep it as a hobby! Either way, you have to enjoy it.
I’m sure you can pick Kalle’s brain for training ideas. I had the same question - like how do you train for lifting heavy rocks? I think the DL reps are literally that, training the DL for reps. I’m certain you can DL 225, so you just need to do that multiple times. And in the women’s division, how many chicks are going to be able to do that @ 225? I think you can do it in 2 months! I’m not sure about me though, haven’t trained DL in months and I had switched to conventional - maybe its like riding a bike tho…
Anywho - don’t worry about those damn 3 lbs. As long as stuff still fits, i think you’ll be ok ![]()
MiM,
I agree with Ink’s suggestion. I’d would still do the event. You will gain a lot of experience and wil be able to determine what needs to change in your training for the next event.
And if your hitting Jersey for the event, the kids might enjoy Six Flags up at Jackson. They had a lot of roller coasters when I used to go there with my kids back 10 years or so. Rides for little kids too. We were able to make a day out of it.
Besides you can visit all of the Outlet Malls on I-95 on the way there and back.
Good luck!
Ct- I don’t get it.
Hi Grny- must be a Universal dumb gym people problem. It’s an epidemic!
And the only smart gym people that are left are here on T-Nation ![]()
I guess I could keep my personal trainer cert up to date cause you never know…but I don’t want to ‘be a trainer,’ right now.
Alexus- thats some good insight. I 'preciate it
Focused on strongman since I was 4, lol…
Mashy- Wally world, huh? ya, we could make a “mini before going back to school vacation”, I spose.
Just didn’t want to make a big deal out of it. A fun little thing to do could easily turn into $3-400 we’d have to save for just to for me to do this one little fun thing, if the whole family was involved. Another stress…ahhhh
And yes, I’ve always wanted to work in the health field ever since I was a small Betty in 3rd grade and did a science project about how soda is bad for kids ![]()
. I have a desire to help people, but I’m not a people person, lol… hmmm. It would have to be a job where I was in charge. I’m a hard worker and work best at taking direction… Having a plan and carrying it out.
Which is why I thought PT’ing would be cool…but no. I have a degree in Sports Management. whatever that is!
Hubby thinks I should go back to be a Nurse. Nurse Betty! ![]()
But I’m leaning towards Occupational Therapy… we’ll see. I plan on going back to school this fall to take refresher courses. My Anatomy and Phys. credits have expired…BOO.
Sorry that was long!!!
pPuff- definitely leaning towards a new gym home. That sounds horrible about the doggy you had. I almost got rid of our cat for the same issues…turns out all he wanted was unscented clumping litter. Frickin CAT! lol
Shout out to KM–thanks for always dropping by…I gotta swing by your log and see whats up. Your little one must be almost 1 or 2??
Hey 2b-- outlets? did you say outlets?? And six flags? oh man…we might as well just take a week before the actual event and party it up, lol. Thanks! ![]()
Oh, and I’m not too worried about the 3 pounds…its the same 3 pounds that have been haunting me. The scale has litterally been a rollercoaster the last 3 weeks.
I’m trying to balance my brain between not worrying about weight and just focusing on everything else and hopefully the side effects are better body comp. It’s hard though!
I put a hurtin on my quads and glutes on Wed…still very doms-ical. ATG front squats, no lockout…
oh and I don’t think the hubby would do the strongman thing. He just started training while on deployment ![]()
He has his own hobbies and I have mine. He likes training now, but it’s not a priority, kwim??
I will try not to worry about my weight as long as the weight is going to the right places in an appropriate way…
Most definitely.
From the side you’re starting to look like a Vargas girl, y’know. Only with better arms.
Looking awesome, your shoulders are huge!
You look great MiM!
Masch you train for lifting heavy rocks by lifting heavy rocks ![]()
It seems a strongwoman comp is something you really want to do at some point. If not now I do suggest you still train as if you where. I think the type of training corresponds with the goals you want as well. It is expensive for, if your lucky a crappy trophy. It makes no sense to do but some of us are wired wrong enough to still want to do it. It is a little scary to jump into, I almost bailed from my first comp but got talked into doing it. I zeroed all but 1 event but it was fun and once you get your feet wet you keep swimming. Hell I still zeroed 2 events at Nationals last year which was the difference between me winning the whole thing and getting 5th like I did.
Sorry to ramble on not sure if it made any sense just trying to give some input.

It’s definitely going in the right places! Looking good. ![]()
So I’ve been thinkin long and hard(thats what she said!) about this comp. I’m not going to do it. The timing isn’t great.
-Hubby is coming home after being gone a YEAR
-
kids are getting out of school
-
we have TONS of things planned to do, including a trip home to MI and another trip to Ocean City(beach house!)
-I don’t want to cause tension and added stress or compromise family time with extra training outside the house. I’m not going to want to leave the hubby just hanging out with the kids…I want to hang out too!! ![]()
I highly respect and admire the girls that can and will be doing comps!!!
I will too…just not in August. I’m still going to train as if I were.

Thats quite the compliment!!! Thanks Cal!! Have another pic… ![]()
Maybe I’ve missed my calling somewhere…or I can be the modern day ‘Betty,’ with muscle ![]()
Thanks Nikki- huge, huh?? I think my ass is getting huge too…WIN!
A- thanks!!
Kalle- ![]()
And thats good advice that i will take…

Off to the gym…
then lunch, store, and cleaning like a mad woman…
Hubby could be home as soon as Wednesday!! EEEEEK…
FACK!
I’m pms’ing hard core…hate it.
c’mere and let me bite your head off!! Daughter is in a shitty mood too and it’s not helping. RAWR! And of course its the weekend before my dear husband gets home, kids at each others throats and I have to clean and go shopping WITH THEM…FAK!
least I made it to the gym…
some overweight convention had convened in front of the squat rack though…kinda fucked up what I wanted to do.
But it ended up working out cause I went back later after they were done and I got to witness PL’er Steve’s wife(I’m assuminig) DL’ing the crap out of some weight.
warmed my heart.
Now I’m home though and feel like running away.
