Best Exercise for Upper Traps?

I’d like to point out georgi markov’s traps at 0:30 at a BW of less than 69kg. They look massive from that angle.

Yeah, shrugs (and curls) work/serve their purpose. Do them. Also glad I never took any of that sort of advice from guys like aaramzy. Didn’t hurt me any either. I’ll never understand the logic in avoiding training bodyparts directly.

I think I have been misunderstood. I wasn’t saying avoid shrugs or curls or whatever, I was merely saying that priority should lie in heavier movements. In otherwords, do your curls and shrugs, but do them after you are finished doing deadlifts, pullups, heavy rows etc etc. I was getting at the point that some guys go to the gym and do curls for 30 minutes, then do 2 sets of rows and then they think they are done.

OR, I can do them on BICEPS day. This shit used to be pretty simple without people acting like this is some “either or” scenario as if you can’t “deadlift” and train arms with equal attention to BOTH.

Train your fucking arms with the same devotion and intensity as your deadlift if your plan is to be huge without giant imbalances…LIKE MOST OF YOU SEEM TO HAVE LATELY.

Sigh… I love how you guys are so determined to call me an idiot when in fact I am larger and leaner than kingbeef (not sure about you prof x as you have no stats) and I am stronger. Seems to me you could at least do me the decency of appreciating my opinion when this is the case. And as far as imbalances, I would bet 99% of people suffer from worse imbalances than myself - like lack of legs! Honestly, just accept the fact that your way is not the best/only way. I prefer to have 29in thighs and be able to squat 300kg+ than to worry about the fact that my biceps are 17.5in rather than 20in.

But, I hadn’t made this a size game. Your legs aren’t bigger than mine. I am glad you like deadlifting, but what sense does it make to tell a guy looking to build himself up (since bodybuilder is a bad word lately), to avoid CURLS?

Why even make it seem at all that someone can’t deadlift AND train arms directly?

Also, this is an old pic (almost a year old), and you are likely much leaner than me, but these aren’t small traps. They didn’t get that way from deadlifts.

Traps are mostly fast twitch. The best way to build mine was always to load up a barbell and do shitty half shrugs with a fuck ton of weight. I’m being serious.

I would do a few sets of shitty shrugs with 400+ pounds and then drop down and get some slower time under tension. Do this once or twice a week, eat a lot, do this for a year. You’ll have big fucking traps.

You’re bigger than me in the legs but I’m pretty sure that’s about it, lol. Unless you care to prove me wrong.

Also what is being said here is that training BOTH compounds (i.e. deadlifts) AND isolations (curls, w/e) HARD is the best way to go for complete development. How can you argue with that?

Not sure if srs

Kettlebell cleans always fry my traps. Maybe that’s because I don’t do them very often, but nothing else makes my traps so sore.[/quote]
could it be the rapid deceleration part of the clean that is frying your traps and not the actual cleaning portion?

Not to derail the thread even more, but whenever I do shrugs, I seem to get a massive cramp in my neck. I can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong, and how am I supposed to get hyoog traps if I can’t do shrugs?

You’re probably sticking your head forward. Try looking up as if looking in the mirror while keeping your back straight and see if that helps.

Larger and leaner than the 'beef, eh? Pics of said jack(90000)d physique plz.

Why not just stay in the powerlifting forum where people care about the numbers they’re moving and not the physique they’re building?

and your 300kg squat is in a suit, right?

Lol…

This is silly. Don’t go and make claims like that, which are false, when you’re trying to demonstrate that your opinion is worthy of listening to.

Post some pics if you want to back up your claims tho.

^^Yeah from what I can tell in his log its in a suit which is not impressive at all…

Nevermind, Bug and ebomb got here first…

Thanks, ProfX. I’ll try that out.

Is he still bragging about his fat legs?

Yes, equipped. Here is the link to his thread CPU Nationals - Powerlifting & Strength Sports - Forums - T Nation

Also, 8-10 rep hang cleans get a good burn going in my traps.
