Jimmy Carl Black Died? How long ago? I know he was sick recently.
JCB was a very bad drummer. Frank wouldn’t have took that drunk miserable guy in his band if he was creating the mothers, not joining them.
famous JCB quote: ‘‘Hey man, I only wanna know 2 things: Is there any beer in here and when do I get paid’’
lol

True but c’mon dude without him we probably wouldn’t have “harder than your husband” which was one my childhood favorites to sing around the family campfire.

Joel Taylor and Kirk Covington are my two favs. Joel is one of the best readers out there too.
Vinnie Colaiuta is awesome. I know a guy who has recorded him and on the quantization screen (or whatever its called) he’s dead on with everything but he over plays IMO and it pisses some people off.
Jon Theodore formerly from Mars Volta. Him and Zach de la Rocha’s new band One Day As a Lion fucking rock! He sounds like John Bonham (who is the hands down the best rock drummer of all time) Ginger Baker deserves a vote too though.

Vinnie Colaiuta.
Has worked with so many great artists:
Zappa,joni mitchell,chick corea,sting,ricki lee jones,jeff beck,mega death,herbie hancock,stanley clarke,chaka khan,steeley dan…just to name a few.
Massive chops, killer feel, plays grooves beutifully in the pocket, and knows how to serve the song and not his ego.
chaka khan

Why does Chaka make you lol?
She was pretty good back in the day with Rufus.
( If you like your funk and soul that is )

I don’t suppose anyone can post any links or recommend any required listening that would back up this post?
Err…pretty much listen to any Led Zeppelin album dude.
It’s a pretty bold statement to say he is the best rock drummer of all time.
One of the most influential though that’s for sure.
Hell, they had to start making drumkits stronger because of his style of playing (plenty of attack) and the fact that everyone wanted to emulate it.
Chad smith, Ian paice, Simon Phillips, Matt Cameron and Jimmy Chamberlin are all drummers who totally blew me away when I saw them live (all for different reasons) and thus deserve honorable mention.
If you want to see three of the best ever going toe to toe check this link out.
It’s a bit of a chop fest, but stick with it till the end as they lay down some fuckin’ tasty grooves as well.

Thank you!
I’m sure many of you have seen this before, but check out this video of Weckl, Colaiuta and Steve Gadd together.

I don’t know if he’s the best, nor do I care.
Trym Tyrson of Emperor & Zyklon is my all time favourite drummer. Hands down
You mean Trym Torson? (Kai Johnny Mosaker)…yeah man widely touted to be the best black metal drummer today.
