Best Combat Movie

Eh the blade ones didn’t do it for me because it’s just minion after minion attacking one by one.

I’m going to put my flame suit on for a moment here…

Since Prof mentioned something in the original post about movies that get you jacked, I have to mention Gran Torino. The scene where Clint rescues the Hmung girl from the young thugs and he looks at one of them and says, stone cold,

“Ever notice how you come across somebody once in a while you shouldn’t have fucked with? That’s me.”

or when he says “I’ll blow a hole in your face and then I’ll go in the house… and sleep like a baby. You can count on that. We used to stack fucks like you five feet high in Korea… use ya for sandbags.”

Even at 300000 years old, Clint Eastwood is a fucking badass IMHO.

So watching a racist old man gets you pumped?? Interesting.

I lol’d.

The story is a good one though, Clint learns stuff and changes himself, blah blah blah. Seriously, it’s his deadpan delivery and the gritty look on his face.

Can’t believe I’m gonna recommend a JCVD movie, but, The Quest had some really awesome fight scenes in it. People from all over the world competing their different styles against each other, that was rad.

Also, on a much grander scale, Red Cliff. Don’t get the American version that is like 2 1/2 hours long, get the “international version” which is the full, 5 hour film. Has some epic, epic shit. Lots of the combat does involve weapons, but there is at least one scene where an unarmed badass goes and murders a whole shitload of opposing soldiers…with his hands. Its 5 hours long, but you really don’t want it to end.

Question…if guys like fighting so much, why do we live in a society that discourages any and all physical force relying instead on an overused and abused faulty judicial system and a growing feminine social dominance?

Is it wrong to want to hit something sometimes?

Hundreds of years ago, warriors were valued…now, they are pretty much reviled.

NOOO X! Don’t turn this into a political thread!

having said that…

I’m a big fan of the old days, when you settled differences by fighting. If you got in an argument with somebody, you fought, and whoever won, was right. There was nothing personal, no lawyers, nobody cried foul.

Imagine if it were that way today. Some dumbass is ‘using’ dumbells you need for stepping up and down on, you walk up, bust his lip, and take them. That would make workouts sooo much faster. Man I’m getting excited just thinking about it! haha

War?

Good points. A man’s word used to be worth something as well. Deals were sealed with a handshake. Now, “men” will say anything to get ahead (in buisness or in life) and don’t care if they go back on their word. We have developped nice, convenient ways of rationalizing things that would make your grandfather cringe and/or shake his head in disgust.

I don’t think violence should be the first and only method of solving a problem, but it shouldn’t be discounted altogether…It certainly should be the preferred method of dealing with “brah-titude” in the gym.

You do squat rack curlz = You get the shit beat out of you with a heavy dumbbell…

Violence should never be the first choice but should always be available at one’s disposal when things get out of hand.

Some things in life piss you off so much that you DO want to hit something - I’m sure many on this site feel the same way regardless of how peaceful they are in real life.

Nowadays people equate warriors with a lack of intelligence. Something which is very wrong. They see signs of aggression as lacking in the mental faculty when the thought process needed to execute and complete a fight requires creativity, ingenuity and strategy.

“Kiss of the Dragon” had some of my favorite martial arts choreography . . . but it was one of the worst movies I have ever seen.

Two movies, it seemed, were happening at the same time: a semi-compelling story of an out-of-jurisdiction law officer taking down a corrupt foreign bureau, and a martial artist fighting against a whole country of bad guys.

Some how, these two awesome movies got drunk and tried the forbidden sex position “Ear Canal Impregnation of the Retarded Unicorn,” producing this piece of shit.

Again, all the fights were excellent. JL and the hooker chick had ZERO chemistry, and only one motherfucker in the whole flick spoke more than two words of clear English. Hell, Jet LI, the most accomplished dramatic actor in the cast, only speaks two words: “Hi” and “Ya.” Everything else sounds like crickets fucking in my brain.

Someone needs to splice all the fights together, edit out the non-action sections, and release it on dvd and uStream as “Jet Li Fucks People in the Face with Violence.”[/quote]

Luckily for me I never noticed.

I second taking this into the PWI section…

X what makes you think that “Guys” like fighting? I will agree that most Guys enjoy to “WATCH” fights or combat movies or real fights for sport (and some not for sport).

But Most people do not enjoy an Acutal fight one on one much less any form of combat. You will have many people fake the funk by saying or telling a story of some azz that soundly kicked. But thats not a Real fight. Your not fighting if there is a slim chance of you losing.

Beating up someone who gives you no challenge or there was little chance they could beat you is not fighting its just Beating someon up. Most enjoy kicking azz few enjoy a Fight.

The Expendables!

As you can tell I’m still young :stuck_out_tongue:

I think most people today have been raised into an ever growing passive aggressive society. People will cut you off on the highway when you try to pass them after they were driving 10mph below the speedlimit…but they won’t get out of their car to confront someone face to face.

You’re right…MOST people don’t want to fight today because you don’t even have to take personal responsibility anymore for anything that you do. You can hide behind the law, your windshield, or the internet.

Look at how most of these guys act even on this website and others. 14 year olds now feel they can pretty much say what they please. I mean, who will call them on it? Someone 500 miles away or in another country? Hell, they can remain anonymous while calling someone like Ronnie Coleman a dickhead without ever having to worry about Mr. Coleman showing up at their front door.

However, if you are saying this is a good thing, I think you are mistaken.

Someone mentioned WAR.

People ONLY appreciate the soldiers when they feel their own lives are at risk. At times of peace, society celebrates the lawyer.

BINGO, I am a bit older than most around here and I do notice the Bravado that most like to display because as you said NO one can call them on it. And the younger generation is starting to take there internet bravery into the real world and one someone calls there bluff its time to take them to court.

People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.
George Orwell

Nobody wants to fight, they want to win a fight.

Off subject. But THE LONGEST DAY movie had the best quotes of any war movie ever made.

I’m 22 and I’ve seen damn near every movie mentioned in this topic. Do yourself a favor and either hit up Blockbuster or load up your Netflix queue.

And as far as fight scenes go, I’d say the bathhouse fight in Eastern Promises and the fight between Donnie Yen and Jet Li in Hero. Spears don’t get enough love.

In the Eastern Promises fight, an unarmed Viggo Mortensen is attacked by two big Serbs wielding nasty looking knives and manages to take them both down. It’s brutal, it’s unflinching, but it also has some mandick in it.

Oh, and I’m surprised nobody’s mentioned Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon yet. I know it’s a wuxia with a strong romance subplot, but some of the fight scenes are simply great.

Turned off Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon half way through. Too much flying around for my taste.

I agree with the rest though; I’m also 22 - many of these movies are bloody classics (e.g. Warriors) that should be in any blokes DVD collection regardless of age.

Just bought Undisputed II - can’t wait.
