Benefits of Training CNS for Regular Joes?

Since i hate sports and am probably never going to play them, is there any real benefit for me to do singles and pure strength work to work my CNS? This goes for any other method of training that stimulates the CNS as well.

Doing lots of singles have a powerful effect on the CNS. But I don’t get your question. What do you want to gain from all of this?

First off, doing heavy singles can still make you gain size – depending on how big your food intake is. Second, heavy singles for CNS can help facilitate growth in other rep ranges too.

I really doubt you’ll find lots of BIG guys that have constantly stayed in the 8 rep range. Most have probably gone into the 1-5 rep range to bust plateaus.

Well it’s always nice to be strong.

And if the zombies attack, you’ll be relying on your 1RM strength much more so than your 8-12RM.

you mean when the zombies attack

The heavier the load, the more it involves the CNS. I just wanted to know what benefit it had for regular gym goers who probably rn’t going to need their CNSs to get worked up

Well, for one thing, mental toughness.

Of course you ‘need’ your CNS. You use it every time you lift.

A more efficient CNS means you can lift more weight with the same muscle mass - so you can put more stress and lift more in the hypertrophy rep ranges.

The ‘trick’ is to balance CNS work (1-5 reps) with hypertrophy so you get the best bang for your buck. Trying to squeeze every last little bit of improvement out of your CNS clearly is going to waste time. But not spending any time in the lower rep ranges is going to leave a lot of low hanging fruit (as far as muscle growth is concerned) untapped.

So basically for you, I’d work the lower rep ranges occasionally adding weight until your strength gains slow, then move back to 6-12 reps.
