Bench Shirt Carryovers?

I’m wearing a 44 Katana at 242lb, my chest is around 46 at the moment I think. The shirt goes on relatively easy, I can get the arms on my self and over my head, just need someone to seat it from there.

Raw bench is about 150kg/330lb to 155kg/340lb touch and go, probably 10-15lb less paused. The minimum I’ve touched this training cycle in my shirt is 465lb, but should hopefully get around 440-450 down in the next couple of weeks. Those weights were not particularly hard to press back up either.

I’m gunning for 475lb in my meet in 7 weeks, so around 145lb worth of carryover (and thus far that’s with the collar pulled high because I don’t have the lockout to jack it down!).

My raw bench has stayed flat the last couple of months, going up by maybe 10lb, but my lat and upper back strength has increased massively, and that’s really fed into my shirted bench going up.[/quote]

Is that what you’d attribute you shirted gains to? I’m lucky to bench 400lbs these days and our raw benches are only 10-15kg apart. Obviously I’m going to keep hammering the lockout, but maybe I need to be doing more upper back work…hows your shoulder strength?

Yup, it has a large part to do with it imo. Not just upper back tho, lats too.

My lockout’s improved marginally (using raw 3 board as my measure), but not enough to be the sole justification for my carryover increase.

My shirt is tighter now tho (10kg on!!)…

Shoulder strength is shit. 70kg standing press x10 maybe. Seated dumbbell press 37.5kg 'bells x8-12.

COOLNATEDAWG,

My raw and shirted numbers are about identical to yours so I can’t offer a solution but empathise with the situation. I use a Titan F-6 which I really like as far as touching, but really envy these reports of guys getting 100+lbs out of their shirts.

What I’m doing is really learning the event of the Bench Press. I just got the Supertraining Gym DVD “Never Enough Bench.” Really good. Also subscribing to Jay Fry’s youtube videos. My next step will be to get advanced instruction. I’m the only serious lifter in an isolated location (an island not a prison LOL)so I rarely even have a handoff guy much less a coach.

Best of luck. You’ll be doing 4 plates soon.

i will say i have not actually done any real heavy raw work prior to my 300 that i hit. and i actually lost about 20lbs of bw. but i managed to increase my raw…

i attribute this to more pull up/rowing movements. i lift 3 days a week now. 2 days i do pullups or chinups and the other day is row. i have actually been doing Pendlay Rows after some reading in Hanley’s thread a while back. so i think my back is getting bigger/stronger.

island strength, your getting in and benching in your shirt solo? damn… thats ballsy.

i think this is a good thread. i want to keep it going. as seen, i am not the only one with this issue. i will not be back in my shirt for a little over a week. next week is deload (thank fucking god)

Considering my raw bench is in the 150-155kg range, it’s pretty brutal by comparison!
