Bench Programs

Has anyone out there tried the MM2K bench program? I’ve been really frustrated with my bench lately, as I’ve hit a wall at 320 and I’ve heard good things about this program on other message boards. Any feedback would be appreciated, or if you know of better programs to up my bench I’d like to know. BTW, I’ve already read the archives and all of Poloquin’s, Staley’s, and King’s articles.

I tried it but only for four weeks. I’ll tell you an AWESOME program is the one by Doug Hepburn, an old school world champion powerlifter. Basically you do 3 sets of 1 w. approx. 95% of 1rm, then 5 sets of 5 w. a lighter weight. The next time you bench you add another set at the 95% for 1 and keep doing this each workout until you hit 8 sets of 1. Then, you increase the weight and start over. Same principle w. the 5*5, when you can hit all 5 sets of 5, increase the weight. If you haven’t done this, give it a shot, it blows the MM2K program away. He has a series of books you can get at Ironmind. Good luck!

thanks man! I’ll give both a try and see what happens

I know this is a little off topic, but Jotun, you wouldn’t happen to be an In Flames fan, would you?

Hells yeah, jeff! In Flames rules! Great lifting music.

The M2K bench routine sucks …HARD!!! The Doug Hepburn stuff is good. Try the Westside stuff it is awesome!!!

In flames rocks!! And so does the MM2K bench program. I increased my bench about 40lbs (got injured at the end), and increased with 10lbs of LBM!

You all have me curious. What type of music is In Flames? I am always looking for good workout tunes to listen to. Is it anything along the lines of Rage, Deftones or the like?

In flames is a tough one to describe…at first I’d be inclined to say melodic death metal, but the newest stuff doesn’t quite fit that genre. They have death metal vocals, but the music is more heavy metal-ish? I dunno. The only way to understand it is to listen to them. They blow bands like Limp Incukorn Chamber (they’re all the same band) out of the water. I’ll be seeing them for the 5th time on the 20th in NJ…can’t wait

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe that TC related in a Reader Mail response that he and Shawn Phillips developed the MM2K Bench program together.
