Bench Press

I can use the same weight for my Close-Grip Bench Press for triceps that I can use for benching for chest. So obviously, something is wrong with my regular bench as I should be able to use more weight. Do you think it’s form, or a weak link like delts. I’m assuming something is wrong with my regular bench since I don’t always feel it in the chest(sometimes in the delts), and my CGBP form is perfect and I always feel it in my triceps. Thanks.

Without seeing you, it is hard to say. It sounds like it may be a technique problem.

Try to get someone to watch you do both lifts; someone who knows what they are talking about. If not, maybe get a video of your lifts and post them here.

I’d have to agree. I think it’s a technique problem. When you do standard flat bench, do you find that your elbows tend to creep inward towards your body, or do they stay out? Also, you keep your shoulders tucked back and down as the tip from Mike Robertson suggests?

I do keep the back of my shoulders tucked back and down. My elbows stay out.

Will,

Go to the elitefts.com website and check out Tom Myslinski’s article on Bench and Squat faults/weaknesses and how to fix them. This would be a great place to start.
