That was a nice ego stroking.

ya i remember when i was with my girlfriend looking for my prom suit at Moores (well priced well dressed). the man who was taking my measurements measured my neck at 17 inch’s. then he stopped looked at me for a second walked away to talk to his supervisor. he came back with his supervisor a few seconds later, the supervisor then measures my neck looks at his employee and says “no you measured right its 17 inch’s”.

apparently a 17 inch neck merits enough attention to have your supervisor double check if you can even use a measuring tape.

I also get asked a lot if i play football. and in high school i was the kid who takes “steroids” because i kept a jug of protein power in my locker to mix in with my carton of milk i got for lunch.

I didn’t think a 17 inch neck was that big. I had a 16.5 inch neck before I started training.

If most of the shirts on the men’s rack equal your size, then it obviously isn’t that big. If you have to look hard to find your size, then yes, it probably is.

17" may be big today just because everyone else is so damn weak and pathetic that anyone who moves under their own power is considered “impressive”.

I can say not being able to find a dress shirt because they only go up to 18.5 sucks.[/quote]

Hey, at least you don’t have to wear them everyday.

I only wear them for interviews…and then the only line that seems to carry my size is George Foreman’s line of shirts at Walmart. If it weren’t for him, I would probably have to get them tailor made somehow.

Its obvious that i play somekind of sports.
I´m 193 cm at 93 kilos at 8 % bodyfat.
Never been asked if i train, because everybody knows i do.
Further on, i get lots of dirty looks at nightclubs when i wear something tight.
Yeah, ive got nice pecs. Bigger than some girls do.

I wish I were big enough to get these comments
My coworkers asked my if I was juicing on like my 3rd day with them. I was unloading a truck and I was very vascular while doing it…

Apparently vascularity when you aren’t stick thin = steroids

Sometimes I get told I have “defined arms” and “nice shoulders” by girls, but nothing along the lines of “you look strong”

Men’s Wearhouse has shirts up to 22’ that actually make an attempt at fitting a man’s body- not the tents you buy at a Big&Tall joint.

Decent selection, too.

I remember back in gym a rower came to me and asked if i´d like to start rowing because i had a so called “rowers body” . Rather tall and wide enough :).

Tired of having to go to Dillard’s to the Big n tall section; costing too much!

Tired of people asking me “so big man, whatcha bench?” I ask them what do they Squat? They then tell me Squatting is bad for knees but they can leg press 1000Lbs. then I tell them that sure is a lot of weight for someone as small as you; in a condescending tone of voice. that usually ends the conversation.

A couple years ago I was training at the university gym and there was this dude there who I’d seen a couple times. We never really talked, but I did catch a glimpse of some of his movements. Long story short, not stellar.

Now usually if someone approaches me and asks for training advice (nutrition or weights) I’ll throw them some good general guidance and be on my way. When I first really started to make some changes in my own body like 5-6 years ago I would get all into it with random people who would ask advice. Then I realized most people are lazy fucks, so it was too mentally exhausting for me to become invested in these people I didn’t know…

Anyway…this guy caught me on a strange day and came up to me…Here’s the basic dialogue from what I can remember:

Dude “Hey man, I see you in a here a lot and you’re pretty big. What should I do to get big like you?”
Me “Just keep coming man…you’ll get there in time.”
Dude “Well, what do you normally eat to gain max size?”
Me “Skittles bro…”
Dude “Skittles…??? What about protein, I heard that was good for muscles…like powder and stuff.”
Me “No way dude, that shit is bad for your kidneys. I don’t touch that shit. You need skittles and Special K.”
Dude “No chicken or steak or anything?”
Me “No chance dude. If you want renal failure then go ahead, but if you wanna know how it’s done then I’d go scoop up some skittles and healthy cereal like Special K.”
Dude “Oh…Maybe that’s what I’m doing wrong.”

I about lost it here…but I kept it together and remained serious the whole time.

I never saw the kid again and for all I know I could have single handedly contributed to our obesity problem. But it was fun as hell and when one of my friends asked me later if I felt bad, I said, “Hell no…he won’t listen to me anyway.”

Bango

Years ago I remember this woman who trained at the gym where I worked, she saw me lifting and said ‘Wow you’re really strong, but it’s good the way you don’t look all muscley when wearing normal clothes’…Ouch!

Bit like the ‘runner’ comment, it took me a while to get over that one!

I’ve been working a temp job the last few weeks and on the third day I asked someone what lunch time I was scheduled for, she replied ‘Oh yeah I forgot you’re funny about food’ Err no, I just like to eat at regular intervals and not survive on 2 choc bars and a coffee!

LOL.

I buy most of my stuff on the internet now because of that. Under Armour goes up to XXXL sizes that fit me pretty well. You usually can’t find those sizes in stores for some reason.

I hate Big and Tall specialty shops…especially in Houston. They make them all for obese people.

Thanks for the addition my friend. I didn’t know Under Armour goes up to XXXL. I take it you have to order it online? I tried a 2X and it was an extra medium spandex shirt. Definitely not wearing an extra smedium shirt to gym. Good info my man!

People seldom ask me about the obvious.

But if they do and if the mood strikes me, I have two answers.

  1. to men (the self-stylized beau metrosexual ones):
“I used to be a runner, but it didn’t get me enough pussy.”

  2. to women (mainly cardio bunnies afraid of eating enough):
“I used to be a runner, but lifting and cardio allow me to eat so much more.”

Works like a charm to get people obsessed with their physical appearance interested in the iron game, btw.

Otherwise, I usually keep my yap shut about my training and change the topic unless the person I’m talking to exhibits a real interest in bodybuilding. In my experience, there are quite a lot of people truly interested in it, though, as long as you don’t come over as the stereotypical meathead.

i tell them, yeah ive only been lifting a year - i started when i was 15

Loose Gear. They have like 10 different lines of clothing. I doubt I would wear one of those compression shirts in public even if I were in contest shape. That just screams, “Hey LOOK AT ME!!!”.

Then again, if I do manage to get that lean, I will probably just avoid shirts completely until I get arrested or something.

Lol, you maded a funneh!!!

I always answer “yeh alittle”

Of course - because wearing NO shirt rather than a compression shirt wouldn’t scream “Look at me!” even louder… ; )

I remember ronnie coleman said in his first dvd how people would actually ask him “do you workout?”

i think it’s kind of obvious people just want to talk to you guys…asking someone if they train or whatever is an easy way to initiate a conversation…obviously, it sounds funny to us, but I understand why people ask it…

Now, If someone asks “are you on steroids?” or something like that, then they are coming from a negative standpoint or possibly they’re are just extremely stupid/drunk…

if someone asks you if you train…be honest with them…now you could end the conversation right there…or you could have fun with them…they are usually clueless lol…

i think you guys take things too seriously sometimes…be proud of what you’ve accomplished and have fun with it…

I was walking with a few friends the other day, and yes, admittedly I’ve become a little self conscious since dropping weight for my upcoming show, but when a woman approached my buddy and asked if I was a boxer, well,… it wasn’t a negative thing, but I always maintained that there is a difference between looking like an ‘athlete’, and looking like a ‘bodybuilder’. (we had to explain that I was a ‘natural’ bodybuilder… then I got bombarded with nutrition questions -lol).
