Beginning Powerlifting Training

I have been working out off and on mostly for the past couple months with a 3 day on 2 day off chest-tri, back-bi, leg-shoulder split and its consists mainly of high reps. I have never really had any muscle before so there are results, but I feel like I could be doing a lot more.

I have been training with only powerlifts (deadlifts, squats, bench, rows) for the most part and I haven’t really been gaining much weight. I usually do pretty high reps and I wonder if that is my fault. I like to have 8 reps be my maximum but I end up underestimating myself and doing too low of weight.

I have a great diet, I have been studying dieting for the past 3 years and going to school full time for exercise science and kinesiology. I just can’t seem to find myself getting the strength I want in comparison to my friends, but I work so fucking hard every time I lift and train.

What do you guys do and what has worked for you?

eating more solves all problems

Stats? How you actually train aka your last workout? Tell us what you ate in a day?

I am not quite sure I grasped what you do with the reps. It seems to me though you are not following the best training protocol. Why don’t you use a 5/3/1 or a classic 5x5?

I personally love the classic Starr approach, easy and brutally effective.

ps. man you’ve got to push yourself ESPECIALLY on the fundamentals. You’ve got to be careful not to injure yourself but not be a pussy either. Strive for PRs every single session.
